Jefe's - Longmont

The happy hour margaritas are delightful, and the chips and salsa are quite flavorful as well. However, the rest of the menu is just average.

The chips and salsa at this restaurant are fantastic! They also offer a wonderful selection of drinks, including non-alcoholic options and mocktails, which I really appreciate. The vegetarian and vegan tacos are decent; I enjoy them, but I don't find them exceptional. The jackfruit taco is somewhat bland, and the others tend to be spicy without much additional flavor. I've also noticed that the food can be served cold at times. Overall, it seems more suited for apps and drinks than a full dining experience.

I've been a regular at Jefe's since they opened because of their fantastic food and margaritas. However, over the past six months, I've noticed that the street tacos now contain only a small amount of filling, far from what their advertised images suggest. Those days seem to be long gone, just like the margaritas that are now hardly recognizable—I can barely taste, see, or feel any tequila in them. Nowadays, I can drink three of them and not feel a thing. They taste more like a thick lemon-limeade, and at best, I just get heartburn from them! On the bright side, the staff is still amazing, and their nachos remain a highlight. Unfortunately, the overall quality of the food has really declined. The chili rellenos are stuffed with raw, crunchy peppers, and the enchiladas and sauce are quite disappointing. I understand this isn't supposed to be authentic Mexican food, and that's okay, but it feels like the chefs and the food have taken a wrong turn—perhaps too much indulgence? From now on, I think I’ll stick to beer.

The happy hour margaritas are excellent, and their chips and salsa are delicious too. As for the rest of the menu, it just doesn't stand out.

The food was bland and overpriced. Overall, it was not an enjoyable experience.
