Then the waitress informs each guest that there will be a 'required '20% gratuity per person regardless of service. Cocktails are $20+ and served in a paper cup. Also, do not accept cash. Take a hard pass. Wish we listened to the tour staff.
Beautiful grounds, great food, and tasty bourbon!Get here early to grab a bite to eat and roam the grounds. This is one of the best kept distilleries in KY and there’s much to offer in ways of food and drink.
Me, my wife, and two friends were on the property for a distillery tour and decided to eat here prior. I had the chicken wrap, my wife had the ham sandwich (we split the carrot cake), and both my friends the salmon. A few things worth noting, without any sort of warning we were all charged a 20% service charge instead of a traditional tip option. This added almost $12 onto our already overpriced meals. The salmon is more like lox, but that wasn 't clear from the menu. The buttermilk chicken wrap was not fried as expected, instead it was more like sliced grilled chicken. The carrot cake was good, but portioned as if we were in a 5 star restaurant...aka maybe 3 bites worth. Overall, very overpriced for the quality.
We ate lunch after our tour. We chose the Country Ham sandwich. The flavor mix of jam and hot mustard was interesting, and the country ham was deli sliced compared to a hefty size of ham. Sides of potato salad and fruit was very good. Enjoyed the quiet setting and staff were very helpful.
We love wheated bourbon. Maker's Mark is missing out on offering tastings to customers. A lot of the other distilleries do this without having to take a tour. They need to offer something special in the gift shop that you cannot get anywhere else and not just the founders series. Maybe bring something out different each day that is difficult to find but if you're spending your time at The Distillery you can score something fun. Would have liked to take a photo of all of the Bourbons on the wall inside where you met for the tour but since we weren't taking a tour I really didn't feel welcome to do so. We moved on down to the gift shop which is a bit of a haul. They do have pretty grounds and fun pictures to take.
