A really chill restaurant with a view of the lovely lorne beach. Everyone was happy with what they ordered and prices were very reasonable with many dishes available for under $20. The menu has a decent selection of cuisine from modern australian to mexican and italian. Portion sizes were generous too. Only downside is that the indoor seating area is quite average
Maple Tree is closed permanently so we walked along Mountjoy parade on a lookout for an alternative. Lorne 1956 is next to a Chinese noodle place. It 's new owner Gaggan took over the premises previously called 'The Arab ' . Gaggan is friendly his menu tangles from noodles curry to grilled barramundi pizza. Very wide indeed. Portions were decent the food is tasty. We had egg noodles, Thai curry grilled barramundi. All good. The house wine was good too. Would readily recommend this place, not fine dining but a comfortable place with good food. Gaggan worked for 10 years in Singapore 's venerable Raffles Hotel his cooking skills are obviously honed.
Our group of 6 people from Melbourne had a wonderful experience at Lorne 1956 café for dinner tonight. The owner Gagan was amazing, soooo hospitable, cooked special dishes for us. Food was fresh and tasty and great friendly service. Gagan even showed us how to cook his special rice dish. Leonie from Melbourne.
Great dinner. Ordered pizza and salad. Lovely crust on pizza, good toppings and excellent flavor, very friendly service. Would definitely go back.
