On a sunny Saturday afternoon, my friend and I decided to satisfy our hunger at a tea shop located near the intersection of Sawtelle and Santa Monica Blvd. Feeling famished, we decided to search Yelp for a sushi spot. We stumbled upon Hide Sushi, just a few blocks away. After checking out reviews and photos, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant only accepted cash but had an ATM inside with a low service fee. We were promptly seated and handed a simple menu. The server was attentive and quick. We opted for the Sashimi selection, which was fresh but on the smaller side. The Nigiri Sushi, especially the salmon, Hamachi, and Toro, were excellent. The Miso soup was a perfect addition, especially on the cooler evening. The atmosphere was dark and elegant, with tightly packed tables. The restaurant quickly filled up, and there was a growing line of people waiting outside as they do not take reservations. The quality of the ingredients and freshness of the fish were top-notch. We left feeling satisfied and agreed that we had discovered a hidden gem that we would definitely visit again.
This small, upscale sushi restaurant has a cozy neighborhood feel with friendly chefs who take custom orders. During my visit, four sushi chefs were hard at work. They only accept cash, but don't let the prices intimidate you - the portion sizes are generous. While the sushi may be more expensive than other places, the amount of meat you get is well worth it. There is plenty of parking available outside. Overall, I left with a full belly and thoroughly satisfied with my sushi experience. Check out my photos for proof!
The food at this restaurant is excellent. The nigiri is top-notch with the freshest fish I've had in a long time. The simple rolls are made exceptionally well. If you're not looking for rolls with fancy names and a million ingredients, this is not the place for you. However, if you want dishes made with simple and fresh ingredients by authentic Japanese chefs, then this is the place to go.
A wonderful CASH ONLY local sushi spot that hits all the marks. Japanese speaking staff. The seafood is fresh, varied, and large pieces at a great price. Really liked the sweet shrimp where they fried the shrimp heads, the juicy scallops, the mackerel, the sole aka halibut, and unagi (freshwater eel). The monkfish liver was quite unique, a little like crab roe. Great nigiri set and sake. There's also a small free parking lot.The service is fast and cordial. The ambiance has a warm inviting aura.
It had been years since I had visited Hide and the owners have made some updates to the interior which are nice but the food has remained consistently fresh and delicious!I can’t believe I waited so long to come back, I’ll be sure to not make that mistake again. My favorite bites of the night were the yellowtail and salmon nigiri, toro scallion cut roll and the ume Shiso cut roll!
