I have many fond memories here, including meeting Frank Black from the Pixies back in the 90s. Nowadays, I visit every New Year’s Day with my son and his dad for our first meal of the year. We order the red beans and rice with ham and andouille sausage, as it’s our little superstition for attracting a prosperous year. It’s always so tasty, especially paired with the cornbread—I always opt for an extra piece instead of a side salad. The service has consistently been good from what I remember, and the lively atmosphere of the Farmer’s Market adds to the experience. It can get crowded, but if you go before noon on weekends, finding a table is much easier.
Okay so I get it, it's the original farmers market, I knew the prices weren't going to be reasonable, but this place up charges like crazy. I ordered a few different sides: the gumbo, hushpuppies, and cornbread. Everything was pretty mediocre and what I expected, but the gumbo portion was really small even for the actual meal ones. My parents got the meal gumbos and it was almost the same size as the one pictured here, and it wasn't that crazy of quality either. Honestly, I think it's time we leave the original farmers market just to the tourists :
The gumbo and jambalaya was delightful here. It was a busy stall but still had very attentive staff that was extremely courteous and helpful. The cornbread was amazing and I would definitely come back for the jambalaya any day of the week. Self seating around the market and I believe they validate parking if you park on the farmer's market side. Otherwise, at the Grove, it's $5/hour for the first 3 hours.
The service was prompt, and the food was excellent. Located in the heart of the Original Farmer's Market, the atmosphere was delightful, complemented by lovely weather. The seafood gumbo was packed with flavor.
I loved this place! Came here for a quick shopping break and was craving some Southern food. Came across this place and it looked so good so we decided to order it. The Gumbo Ya Ya was the cashier's fave so we decided to try it out, and it was so good! It was really flavorful and had many different types of protein. The side of collard greens was also tasty and went well with the gumbo. I would definitely recommend if you're craving some hearty Southern food.
