My food was tasty. The five was a little sticky but overall a flavorful dish. No wait or crowd in Middletown at lunchtime is rare. This is a nice lunch spot with reasonable prices and large portions. Service wasn't super fast but definitely not slow. I recommend Peking City Bistro and I'll be back!
In our search for a favorite Chinese restaurant, Peking City Bistro wins. Set back off of Shelbyville road in a retail strip, the place doesn't jump at you, but is rather unassuming. No big flashing sign...no neon. It'd be easy to drive pass the place, but don't. Make it your destination. It's worth the trip. It's not a huge place, with maybe a dozen tables but what it lacks in size it makes up for in food, service, and menu. The decor is done in dark, rich tones (think a dark, rich red and black and a variety of tables and booths. Background music has been kind of hit-or-miss, but in no way takes away from the enjoyment of this restaurant. The menu at Peking City Bistro is large. Astoundingly large. EFFING HUGE! SO many options in a variety of categories. Descriptions are minimal and next to no pictures, but if you have any questions your server (we've had the same very nice young lady every time we've visited whose name we haven't gotten knows what every item is and what it consists of. (all I can ask is HOW?...because that menu is GINORMOUS! . I'm always impressed with how fast the food delivery is here, and every time the food has been hot and accurate. The portions are sizable, so expect to go home with about half of what is delivered to you. The food is a-maze-ing (if I could make it bold or italicized I would , and very reasonably priced, giving you some pretty serious bang for your buck. Since moving to Louisville we've tried a number of Chinese restaurants and haven't been WOW'd by one...until now. Dammit...now I want to go here for dinner.
I have had this place bookmarked for some time based on the reviews and the fact that I read that their Mongolian beef was really good here. Mongolian beef is my favorite Chinese dish, so I was happy that I finally got the chance to see for myself if it lived up to what I had read. We stopped in here on a Saturday night for some take-out a week ago, so I could find out. Peking City Bistro is in an unassuming and nondescript small strip center on Shelbyville Road in Middletown. I remember coming to this exact location about ten years ago, when a furniture consignment shop sat in this very spot. Inside, the restaurant is small, but quaint, clean, and comfortable. They have tables and booths both available. The decor is typical and expected for a place of this category, but the lighting is nice and gives it a warm feeling. We didn't call ahead and order, but decided instead to order in person and wait. We ordered Mongolian beef, sesame chicken, a scallion pancake, one hot and sour soup, and egg rolls. Everything was perfect! I mean, we had not one criticism. The Mongolian beef had a great flavor and the beef was tender. I have had a hard time finding Mongolian beef around town that is not bland; their Mongolian beef was anything but bland. The sesame chicken was equally great. The chicken wasn't chewy, as it often is at some places. Also, the glaze on the chicken was a bright orange, which was indicative of it having the proper sweetness and not being overly sweet and the typical dark maroon color that I often find at other places. The scallion pancake was tasty. The hot and sour soup was wonderful. That is another one of my favorites that they nailed. The egg rolls were large, stuffed full, and had the appearance of being house made to my untrained eye. Once again, they were great, just like everything else. We literally loved everything that we tried. We ordered very Americanized dishes, but for what we like and had, they really delivered. The staff was friendly and our food was ready within about ten minutes. No negatives at all here and I am certain that we will be back. They easily earn five stars from me for their category, type, and price point.
Had lunch here today. Not quite as good as the last time we ate here. The Hot N Sour soup did not have much taste or spice. Hunan Shrimp was good but, seems like there were fewer shrimp and it also was not spicy as it should have been. Lowered to 4 stars. I will probably give it one more try.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful Chinese food! We came here for my nana's 90th birthday and everyone absolutely loved it. Everyone ordered off the American Chinese menu, but I decided try something more traditional and new. I went with the Basil Chicken which came in a special pot. I waited a smidgen longer than everyone else, but the wait was worth it. The chicken was juicy and full of great flavor basil and garlic. YUM!!! We had a family size bowl of fluffy white rice which went well with my dish. I really loved the big round table we sat at. It made it easy to share food because it had a huge glass spinner so we send food over to the other side without getting up. I call that family style. Lol! My hot and sour soup was also great! I'm picky about that particular dish too because I feel so many get it wrong. Well this was right. Soooo right. : my egg roll was crispy and not greasy at all. Perfect. I loved this restaurant! In my opinion some of the best Chinese cuisine I've ever had.
