Historic and characteristic tavern in a dark street in the historic center, small but particular place, tables very close together, a girl who serves at the table is friendly, helpful, courteous. Here the positive notes end. Owner, or manager, in a bad mood, doesn't look you in the face or smile, hasty welcome. Perhaps more important though, absolutely anonymous food, flat and tasteless cuisine, not very stimulating even if you are hungry; flavors that should be typical and particular practically do not exist and cannot be distinguished from one another; and this in a region where gastronomy and catering should be a flagship but evidently this is not the case everywhere. Could we have been unlucky? Well, I don't believe it much. It makes me think that the strong recent increase in tourism in Lucca (especially foreign) is massifying the offer and ensuring that true quality is hiding away in a few selected places, leaving ordinary people with many of these meeting places that we would gladly enjoy less.
