We went there for recommendations from several friends living in the Apple Valley, and we're happy that we did. It's just about a two-hour drive from home and we're already planning a trip back for pan roasted chicken. Cut fresh... flowered and seasoned... and cast iron skillfully roasted... As Mom used to do, when we arrived at the humble building on the side of Highway 18... there was no one car in the parking lot... and it was soon. Partially paved parking... dusty... windy... must be the high desert. There is a very beautiful wall painting on the west wall, but the rest of the building does not indicate excellence. A few neon beer signs in the dining room window recommend a cold beer is available... and it was... Ice Cream: Inside there was a counter... empty.... scattered tables... and I immediately thought of “Broderic Crawford” in the 1950s TV show “Highway Patrol”... that could have been a set... but no... they filmed it in “Lone Pine”. The owner “Letty” sat on the back of the dining room... under a crowned note and photo of her latest grandchild... stacked to the wall... her morning crossword puzzle... and without a doubt pick up what happened in the Lucerne Valley. The restaurant was very clean... and she immediately brought us a menu... offer of a drink... and great smile. I knew I liked this place and I was really hungry. We had said that the Chile Verde Burrito and Taco Combo were... that's the point. You had some great sounds... and the menu is extensive. Your breakfast menu leads to a refreshment. I read the menu... all sounded great... but I found the recommended combo... and casually ignored that all dinners include rice and beans. I asked how hot the Chile Verde was and Leddy told me that it was depending on Jalapenos... but that she prepared it herslef... It was rarely really hot and then went to the kitchen and brought me a little cup of it... with a spoon... and it was incredible. Just the right spices for me and delicious. I ordered the food combo. My smarter half “Terri” discovered the same Burrito on the Senior Menu as “1/2 Chile Verde Burrito 5.95”... Our order was placed and enjoyed the ice cold Coors Light... with home made chips and salsa... delicious. Another “Senior” pair came in... sat behind us in the other “View Booth” and looked over the menu. Letty approached them and the guy ordered the special on the board above the counter. The daily special was “Two Enchilada of your choice with Garnish 5.95” But Leddy tells the guy... sir... I can see you're a senior... and the exact same duck is for 5,25... So you can save .70. Yeah, I had that much happened: Next, Letty was bringing our food. Terri saw them 1/2 Burrito... said Oh my God... then Letty fled my dinner plate... and I... and the other couple behind us... all said Oh my God. It was huge. I mean big. It was so big... I made a picture of the Doggy box to show how much I couldn't eat... even though I was hungry. It smells spectacular... it looked spectacular. I forgot part of the mission and ate 1/2 of the tacos before I remembered getting a photo. It tasted spectacular... five stars safe. I ordered a second beer... also Ice Cold... and cried in. Started fast... Ends slowly... I swear, I hurt myself to get more of it. You know, the clean record thing. I gave up... She brought a Doggybox before I even asked and told me that everyone commented on her services... but no one has ever been hungry. When she told us about her fried chicken... and even when filled... We made plans for the next trip. Oh, yeah, I forgot that the guy behind me went back his offer to help me when he got his two enchilada from the senior menu for 5.25. The meal was still a fantastic value.
