The Luray Caverns, without a doubt, are the best caverns we have ever seen. What we liked is that there is no guided tour, and you can explore the caverns at your own pace and wait for the perfect picture opportunity. Also, there are staff members at certain points to explain some of the highlights to visitors passing by. There is a sparkling lake that reflects a myriad of fantastic forms and creates a mirror image of the abundant stalactites hanging from the ceiling. As for the Great Stalacpipe Organ, in my opinion, it was a bit underwhelming. I expected a few more tunes. Being the world’s largest musical instrument. It literally makes stalactites sing by gently tapping them throughout three acres of the caverns. But with so many visitors at any one time, it's hard to hear. It is a musical masterpiece that can’t be found anywhere else in the world..
It's no doubt a neat trip for visiting a cave but the company is letting it slide. In the past ten years, the price has gone up and the tours are no longer guided. We visited today and it was a near free-for-all in the cave. A lot of people were touching the rock formations and leaving trash in the cavern. At this rate, considering how delicate the caves are, I wouldn't be surprised if it were eventually closed off to the public.
Talking about beauty from within! This is a cavern that you can take a walking tour through. Take as much time as you want and take all the beautiful pictures with you. It's a self-guided tour. With guides that have a lot of information for you about this national treasure. This should be on your bucket list. Easy to find right off the highway. Easy to get back on the highway. Also at this location there is a cafe, a toy store, a caravan and transportation museum. A maze garden that you can walk through and get lost for a minute. There's also a gas station in the parking lot. So it's perfect spot if you are on a long trip. I'm missing my lover so bad today. Mikey, you would have loved it. Here. You have to visit
We had the best time here. I took my father and my grandson (who is 4) and my dad loved the ramp that was added from the last time he was here many years ago and my grandson practically skipped the entire time being in awe of everything to see.We lucked out and didn't realize the anniversary of the caverns being discovered was the same weekend we chose to go and they had lit hundreds of candles which only added to the ambiance. It was also nice and cool given the 90+ it was outside.
