This was an amazing meal from the second we were welcomed at the door to the last perfect bite and at far less than it would cost at a Michelin star restaurant (though Le Boeuf D'Argent is certainly star worthy. The service was amazing and...unpretentious, and Chef Henri Balland checked on us twice to make sure we were satisfied with our meal. You can tell that it's a family run establishment that takes great pride in delivering a memorable dining experience.
My husband and I wanted to try out some decent local Lyon Food and this restaurant had a 4.8 review, so we thought we would let it go. From the beginning it was clear that English is not welcome, regardless of the fact that we speak perfectly...ok French. The food rests on the laurels of food in France. The recipes have not been updated for decades and they think they can surprise you with foam. I'd rather not hide behind tasteless gimmicks. All the food was fine, but not the food capital of France. The cheese course they served as a specialty was nothing more the cream fraiche and parsley. To finish everything, they accused my husband of stealing a barrel of mill napkins... after we paid €300. Save yourself, please.
An extraordinary experience again. We've been eating here for five years and that was even better than before. Elegant food best. We had the surprise meal, and each course was great. Henri and Odile made us very welcome and they offer super hospitality. Nathalie was a wonderful server that completely explains us every course. The wines we had were delicious. Can't wait to return. We'll come to Lyon if we can eat from Canada!
So the food is good. The one English speaker at the restaurant, which was assigned to our table, was good. Every course was given to us as if we were an inconvenience. The cook sometimes went around and asked if we were okay. I'm really sorry, as if he had made nice food, that the staff went off like a reflection. At the end of the meal we paid €300 for two (not cheap! and the waitress accused me not even, but twice the stealing napkins. No, I'm sorry. This place rests on the idea of good French food, but does not provide avoid.
