Had dinner at 1852 Grill Room last night. First off, the food and service were excellent. We had mussels (incorrectly called Prince Edward Island and the sole meuniere with risotto and Brussel sprouts. The parm risotto was some of the best I have ever had. For desert, the fudge Sunday. Service was prompt and efficient. Lovely atmosphere overlooking the harbor. However: It seems no one on staff had any knowledge of the wine list, so we ordered blind. Fortunately it worked out. The mussels, listed as “PEI” were actually green lipped mussels. PEI are a different species of black mussels. Not a bad thing, because green lipped mussels have a milder flavor and aren’t as briny as PEIs. They were delicious. I actually prefer them, just misrepresented on the menu. They also list a “Scottish” salmon, described as “Pharoh island filet”. The Faroe Islands is an Island nation territory of Denmark between Iceland and Norway. World renowned for its Salmon farming. They produce an especially rich and flavorful Atlantic Salmon, not even similar to Scottish. In my opinion, one of the best in the world. Although due to its strong flavor, not commonly served in restaurants. One final note: Check the fine print at the bottom of the menu. They charge an additional 3.4% convenience fee on the bill. Just be aware that the food prices are actually higher that listed on the menu. Have your own opinion, but I find this particularly offensive
Food was okrequested medium got well done. There was no one playing the piano. Nasty fly in the restaurant. Way overpriced. View was good. Server was very efficient. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100+ Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 2
Though the Salmon was perfectly grilled, the centerpiece of this restaurant is the Whitefish. Winning not only in taste but also in value. The fluffy potatoes seemed to blossom off the Whitefish framed by the grilled asparagus. Served on a wooden plank. Beautiful. Exceptional service, as well.
