Our water was never refilled, nor was there any offer to refill our drinks. Our waiter told us the Charcuterie board would serve four people which was not the case at all, different and not really worth it. We then ordered the pork schnitzel sandwich which was a very dry and thin piece of meat, and there was too much red cabbage which to us was very overpowering. Again disappointed and over priced.
We ate in the bar. Jonsey was our bartender. He was fabulous. So much fun and the atmosphere was spectacular. Be prepared to pay
My husband and I were a bit disappointed with our all around experience here. While we had some dishes that were amazing like the foie gras and elk, the rest of the food was just ok. The part that really disappointed us was the atmosphere. We were looking for a nice dinner date in a quaint restaurant in the woods. Instead we had a loud, screaming children running everywhere that left us with a headache and really made it hard to enjoy our meal. The vibe the food, decor, and servers all gave a more fine dining atmosphere so we dressed a little nicer (dress and slacks/sports jacket), nothing crazy but enough to pass for Grand Hotel dressed up standards. But most people were wearing jeans and very casual clothes and with the hectic and loud atmosphere, it almost felt like I was at an Applebees. It was very weird. Also given the price including having to take the taxi out there (which is very nice) you are spending the same amount to go to Chianti at Mission Point which in my opinion had better food overall and better atmosphere. If you are looking to splurge and have a nice elegant dinner, the Woods is not that. It is high end food with a laid-back kid-friendly vibe. Nothing wrong with that, but that was not what we felt we were going to get from the website and menu and therefore left disappointed overall based on what our expectations and desires were for our dinner.
We loved The Woods Restaurant so much we ate there twice during our visit to Mackinac Island. The atmosphere was unique, like dining in a historic upscale lodge. We were there to celebrate a special birthday and our family of 8 raved about the food. A highlight of our trip!
I’m shocked that there are any negative comments about this restaurant. The magic starts on the carriage ride and continues with the first step inside the establishment. Our meals were excellent. We started with the wild boar meatballs, delicious. Next we shared the poached pear salad and steak soup. Both were amazing, but the steak soup was mind blowing. For mains we had the lake trout and the 6oz filet. DELICIOUS!!!! Finally we finished with the pecan ball. If we had to get rid of one selection it would be the pecan ball, but even that was yummy. 10/10 experience. Taxi was $10.50 per person each way. Food bill was $263.00 but we had 3 cocktails. 2 people in our party.
