Horrible owner, cares more about ogling women than keeping his business going strong and employees even remotely close to happy. There 's a reason the kitchen is like a revolving door when it comes to cooks, and it 's not because 'nobody wants to work ', it 's because nobody wants to work for YOU.
I 'll give them the second star because they were short staffed and had an all new kitchen crew but sorry, you have one chance to impress new customers. In Madison, almost all the restaurants close at 9, so we chose to have dinner/drinks at Moxie since they close at 10 and we didn 't want to rush. But the cocktails and entrees we read about on Yelp sounded really interesting! Regrets.... We arrived to a 30% filled place and still had to wait almost 10 minutes to be seated. Upon sitting, the host told us they were out of the Chicken Sandwich. We were given menus and as we began perusing, we noticed half the items we saw online were on that menu. We really wanted to leave and at that point couldn 't because everything else was closed by then. So we had to make do. We ordered the Chupacabra, which was excellent. It 's basically a spicy mezcal margarita made with chilis instead of jalapeno. Since we don 't eat mammals or dairy, there was not much for us to choose from. We had been looking forward to a couple of the fish entrees. We ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower, which was decent, but arrived with cheese on it, which we had asked to remove so they had to redo it. Sauce was extremely strong. I ordered the Tuna appetizer, which was very good. My friend ordered the veggie burger and malt fries. She said the burger was just too overcome with spicy sauce and the malt fries just tasted like regular fries. We had to wait a good 30 minutes for our food. But it could have been worse. Unfortunately, for the people next to us, it was. We couldn 't help but overhear, considering our tables were so close together we may as well have been sitting together, separated by a 6 inch wide planter. The hilarious part is we thought they were just there for a drink for about an hour, until their server asked if they would like the check. One of them replied by saying actually, we would like our food that we ordered an hour ago . The server, flustered, apologized profusely and several minutes later came out with their food. They were obviously irritated beyond repair. After eating only a few bites, decided to ask for their check. The server gave them the wrong one. After paying the correct one, they asked to see the manager, who came over immediately. She also apologized profusely after hearing their experience, and offered them a gift card. They politely declined and reiterated (in a very soft spoken and kind way) how unacceptable their experience was, and the manager simply apologized a few more times and left. The saving grace the OWNER happened to overhear this entire thing and approached their table next. Although, in my opinion, his appearance was completely inappropriate (he was wearing a sloppy t shirt and sweat shorts with sandals but I get it, this is a beach town), he immediately asked for the patrons to explain their experience and then told their server to reverse the charges and gave them their whole bill on the house.
Back after a year. Moxie needs a new menu, chef and staff. Mediocre food, no fish to be found, so I asked for shrimps with sautéed brussels. I received a lettuce salad with 4 tiny tastless shrimps, to compensate for the wrong order i got a huge order of Brussels with honey and a side order of the 4 misly shrimps. At the end I got elephant size tomato slices with the same 4 shrimps. Weird how a chef could NOT make a beautiful delicious shrimp dish.
Always good food. Had a nice meal with my kids sitting outside.
