I have a dear friend who lives in Madrid and wanted to locate a restaurant where we could meet for dinner. My husband and I were just off a Douro River cruise, and were staying at the Melia Princessa Hotel, this restaurant is situated literally just a two minute walk from the hotel. I had sent a handful of restaurant suggestions to my friend prior to our trip, and she selected this one. My hubby and I are big fans of Ethiopian food which provides so many different flavor profiles that make the food very interesting and delicious. We chose a sampler platter containing lamb and chicken dishes, and also added a vegetarian dish. There was more than enough for three people as the portion sizes were very generous. The injera (bread used for scooping the food) was also cooked to perfection adding a slight, spongy goodness to the flavor profile. The restaurant is very clean and cutely decorated; a very warm and cozy atmosphere. The service was excellent. Also, if you are a vegetarian, there are a variety of vegetables dishes from which to choose for a very satisfying meal. We've dined in several Ethiopian restaurants, and this one was top notch. The prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant.
We love Ethiopian food so this was our first stop in Madrid. The great thing about Ethiopian food is the consistency wherever you go. Mostly it’s run by an Ethiopian lady which definitely helps with the authenticity. Hanan is no different and we had the special doro wot. It was delicious and in lovely surroundings. Will definitely visit again.
Been there three times, but quite familiar with Ethiopian food I must say this place is fantastic! Super appreciative of the vegetarian options! The food is tasty and always fresh! Love everything about it!
Ethiopian food is a favourite of mine, so after arriving in Madrid and reading the positive reviews I was really excited to try Hanan. I arrived at about 2 PM for lunch and from that moment, basically everything went wrong... I stood in the doorway and wandering up and down the stairs saying HOLA BUENAS? for probably 5 minutes without seeing a person. Just as I was giving up and on my way out the door, a lady arrives to serve me. Another couple arrived part way through the meal and also waited a very long time to be greeted and seated, so it seems like this is pretty standard at Hanan. Hungry and excited for my food I ordered the mixed vegetarian platter and clarified with the lady serving me that I 'm allergic to dairy to which she said no problem, they would just leave out the portion of cheese in the middle. Food arrived, cheese in the middle of the plate touching all the other veg dishes and I ended up spooning aside that whole portion of my plate because it was 15 minutes until she came back to check on me. The quality of what I could eat was VERY mediocre, it tasted pre-made and kind of dry. The injera wasn 't as stretchy as I expected, it kept crumbling as I used it to scoop up lentils and vegetables. The server eventually noticed the error and commented on it, but didn 't apologize or offer me anything to remedy the situation. She charged me full price using the tap function on my card, which was declined because it turns out she tried to charge me 1700 euros instead of 17. YIKES. Don 't waste your money guys.
