Surya Roof Top Veg. - Madurai

I don't understand why this restaurant has so many positive reviews and is featured in the LP book. We paid a high price for a Kingfisher beer compared to other 'dry' states in the south. The waiters seemed eager to sell us beer as soon as we arrived. The curries were disappointingly small. My Kashmiri Aloo Dum had pineapple and watermelon sprinkled on top, which was not a common addition in Kashmir or the north where I have tried this dish before. The only customers were foreigners, likely because it is listed in the LP guide. The only redeeming quality of this place is the view of the city rooftops and temple from a distance. There are probably better local restaurants in the area, or for tasty western food, try Phil's bistro instead.

We visited this lovely rooftop restaurant after a big day of touring the city's famous temples. We found a table with great views and sat back enjoying a cold drink and watching the sunset over the landscape below. And just when we thought life couldn't get much better, out came the delicous food. Some of the best meals we'd enjoyed: fresh, tasty and full of flavour. The perfect end to a big day out in magical Madurai.

The upper terrace opens only with us were therefore in the bottom (no view). we were a group and the waiter was not good to match an order with a person. also the hygiene level was questionable. I give stara for the dachview (a bit blocked by the building in the fron), for eating and for the service
