My experience with the maheno Tavern Today I was so disappointed in the maheno Tavern as we was coming back from Dunedin and my we 4 year old daughter needed to go to the toilet. So called into the maheno Tavern and asked if she could use the toilet. The lady Tavern owner behind the bar said to me in a very bad manner that the toilet is not a public toilet. Then i explained that we were coming back from Dunedin to oamaru and she was 4 years old and she badly needed the toilet. She then replied with you should go back to oamaru. I then apologised. She said she could use the toilet. When my daughter was using the toilet she said that i could of bought a an of coke.I then said i will buy a can of coke and then she skitz at me with very bad manner in front of me and my daughter and her two young sisters. I then even apologized to the ladies parter and he just looked at me and said nothing. I thought that the maheno Tavern was a family friendly oriented Tavern. I have been let down Thank you.yours greatly jason

A great place to meet your friends. caters for children in cafe and has nice play area for children in very nice garden settings. great dining and bar facilities.

This is our go to place when we are staying in Kakanui. Helen makes amazing burgers Terry thinks they are the best he's had, and he has tried burgers all over the world. Love the country music evenings that they regularly have too.

Wonderful meals. Don't pass it by!!! Great place to stay the night if you have a self contained camper.
