At dinner it is “nice casual” dress; for lunch you will be good in jeans. On Sundays a wonderful brunch buffet is served. The Barefoot Bar is very popular with singles and young couples, and their drinks are all wonderful. Don't miss her mai tai! Although the bar usually blossoms with youthful energy, the dining room is pleasantly quiet and relaxing. The decor reflects its Hawaiian roots, with many surf memorabilia. The entire wall opposite the ocean is glass and the views are incomparable in a clear night. Seagulls land on the rocks outside the window; Their Ancients are often closest. On weekends, you will be gently fed by a sloping Ukele player with a beautiful crooning voice. Be careful, but his sidekick can try to get you up and hula with him! This is not a cheap meal, although not exorbitant (last time I picked up the check there, dinner for 3 adults and a child, with 3 cocktails was $140), but sooooo worth the price. If I remember correctly, the menu is a la carte.
This place is a casual joy. An institution in the Hawaiian/California form. Excellent crab remover; big brunch; and to-die-for Mud Pie for dessert. Sitting in the barefoot bar (I liked it better when it was sand, but now it is concrete that I appreciate cleaner) outside and watching dolphins swim on possibly the most beautiful stretch of the beach in the continental US is pure sky.
I came for the first time for an early dinner to catch the Oceanviews and sunset over the weekend after the day at Getty Villa. the restaurant is enormous and sits right on the shore and offers an excellent view of the Pacific. in a handful of places in oahu, the atmosphere at duke’s is very susceptible to hawaii. parking is obligatory valet $4). Duke’s has 2 parts – a festive barefoot bar and a quieter, larger seating area. We sat in the dining area, in one of their cuddly stands opposite the ocean. Our server was casual, moderate and professional. Our dishes came similarly licking fast... the one eyebrow or two about freshness, but overall, was not terrible, but nothing to write at home. The portion sizes are large and I definitely made 2 meals from my fish plate, although my husband finished his ribbed plate without any problems. If you are looking for a light, healthy dinner, this is not the place to go. I don't think I'd come back for dinner just because the food quality is moderate in view of prices, but I want to come back to try brunch and enjoy a tropical drink or two with the relaxing Oceanviews.
Great food. Great service.
