Great potential awaits ...... must stick to their culinary heritage I reckon.Nicely located on Waverley Rd, near the corner of Darling Rd, Malvern East, plenty of parking space, plus .... end of the tram line if you are on public transport. This 40 seat eatery is uniquely different from other Malaysian restaurants, warmly designed with modern fixtures, chairs and bold colours, cosy and easy on the eyes. According to the young waiter, it has been there for 2 years, not sure whether it 's the new owner or not, service seems to be a little 'uneasy ' and Menu is even more confusing; a mixture of Thai and Malaysian cuisine in one, although it was easy to navigate for those who have frequented South East Asian restaurants.Anyway, the chef is from Ipoh, Malaysia and they are known for their culinary heritage, hence we went for Malaysian dishes for our dinner. Started with Chicken Satay 'paggang ' grilled with peanut sauce, just perfectly balanced of curry and peanuts. Good size, marinated chicken and well grilled.Sizzling Beancurd/Tofu and Snapper with Malay Sweet Sour sauce for mains.Sizzling Tofu was a tad salty but good and Snapper was smelling a little 'earth ' flavour, the sweet sour sauce was bland, missing some salt, apart from that fish were 'cubed ' 'fried ' very well and tasty.BYO is probably better as they have limited Wine List and their wines by the glass are quite ordinary, next time. Service was okay and pleasant, the young waiter was doing his best entertaining 12 patrons by himself with the occasional help of the owner couple.A little confusing at first with their combined Menu of Thai Malaysian, as we haven 't tried their Thai stuff, however, I would like to suggest to the owner to stick to one particular cuisine and master it for us to enjoy. Those Malaysian delights that were served have potential to be awesome and your chef is from Ipoh, it 's only logical.Great potential and an enjoyable dinner and thank you, 'terima kasih '. Went to Tuans the other night with my dad, and we both loved the food. Nice setting and friendly service, we had the Singapore noodles and the beef rendang and both were great, especially the beef. Will be back for sure xx
The food in this place basically good, just a bit on the salty side, but the taste of the sauce was nice. Service was good, the waitress forgot my tea coz it was getting crowded and she got flustered, but overall happy with the service from her as she was friendly, but not from the other waiter who served us without any smile and with a 'bored ' face.
Four of us used a Groupon voucher to visit this restaurant. It was our second time in two months and we had a great experience. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the prices were reasonable. I will definitely return again. The beef rendang was particularly outstanding and the best I've ever tasted.
