I apologize for being honest, but Rose Garden is still in the same location in Mamallapuram. During our most recent trip in February, we revisited Rose Garden and found that it is still situated in the same spot across from the temple tank near the Shore Temple. It is now much busier than before, with the majority of visitors being locals on holiday. The food served is fresh and hot, and you can even see into the kitchen through a small server window in the restaurant. This time, we tried the spicy and flavorful Hyderabadi biryani, which was fantastic. Give it a try and you'll understand why we will definitely be returning.
Since 2005, we have been traveling to India and one of the places we visited this year is Mamallapuram. While it may be tempting to stick to the well-known restaurants, I recommend trying out a hidden gem - the Rose Garden restaurant on Beach Road, right in front of the temple. This restaurant may cater more to Indian tourists, but don't let that deter you, as they serve fantastic local cuisine. Everything is freshly prepared that morning, whether it's vegetarian or chicken biryani, both delicious and flavorful. Be sure to ask for the fish fritters, marinated with local spices for a truly tasty treat. They also offer tali, which is a traditional South Indian meal, and you won't be disappointed. If you're planning a tour through South India, the owner's son, Shekhar, has a well-maintained car and can take you on a personalized tour. We had a wonderful experience with him, exploring temples in the city, visiting Kovalam, and ending in Cochin, Kerala. Shekhar's knowledge about the region, its people, cuisine, and customs added an extra layer of enjoyment to our trip. His tours are like dining at the Rose Garden - a must-visit for experiencing the real Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
