First time in Mammoth and ate at a couple of other restaurants in the area the previous 2 nights. Petra's is my favorite out of the 3, but it was also the most expensive. We had the Salmon Trio, the Caesar salad, the clams and the Salmon entree. All of the food was very good and the waiter Tony was very nice.
A little pricey but great food, wine, location, and service.
STEPH JUDGEMENT: A reasonable above casual dining experience in Mammoth. The hubby and I were in the area for our anniversary weekend back in early September and wanted something fancier than usual. We'd never been here before but it came up with high marks and seemed to have a decent vegetarian selection. We got there around 5:30 on a Thursday night with no reservations and there were plenty of tables available, but it was definitely not high season. We were in time for happy hour and started things off with a couple of cocktails: a Sazerac for me and an old fashioned for him, both delicious. We ordered to share the following: bread basket (nice assortment of fresh baked breads) Brussels sprouts (good, but was tad on the sweeter side for us) Crab cakes (very good, served with mixed greens) Sautéed mushrooms (a nice variety of shrooms in a whole lot of butter, large portion) Gnocchi (delicious, in a buttery cream sauce with tomatoes and mushrooms) Crème brûlée (perfect) Chocolate mousse (served in a little flat crispy waffle like bowl) hot toddy (a little on the sour side) Overall the food was very good, and the service even better our server was so friendly and efficient. We had a lovely time and managed not to break the bank by making it in time for happy hour! Would definitely go back.
