I want to visit again!
This place deserves way more than 5 stars! What a wonderful experience! If you love delicious teas and sweet treats, a quiet environment and exceptional service, then you have to visit here. I cannot recommend this place highly enough
I studied in Japan for a year and learnt a lot about matcha and Japanese tea ceremony, so when I heard about this place I knew I had to go. I booked bar seats for me and my boyfriend (reservations required and we took a day trip to Manchester just to go, and it did not disappoint. The staff are very friendly and I would have loved to talk to them more about the tea, but it was quite busy. Noise must be kept to a minimum so as not to disturb the ambience. The staff give an explanation of the menu. I had Shuin koicha (thick matcha which was delicious and bitter, just like the best matcha I've had in Japan. It came with wagashi which was also delicious. As someone familiar with tea ceremony it was very nostalgic to see it prepared so skilfully and carefully. My boyfriend had matcha au lait which was much cheaper. Also, if you have matcha you get to choose the chawan that it's in (most chawan are for sale at decent prices for what they are. The desserts are amazing also. We had houjicha roll cake which was nice and moist, and zenzai (red bean soup with mochi which was delicious and very nostalgic of the red bean sweets I had in Japan. They were also very decent prices. You can preorder special desserts of theirs on their website. I highly recommend visiting if you have the chance. I definitely plan to go back myself!
We had a wonderfully peaceful and mindful experience at this restaurant. The hosts were incredibly kind, and the teas were excellent. Before visiting, I read numerous reviews, but I didn't come across any negative experiences. It seems that any past issues have been resolved, as the staff was warm and welcoming. They both wore smiles while serving us and made every effort to ensure we had a great time. The atmosphere encourages respect and tranquility, and while there are some guidelines in place, they are only meant to foster a considerate environment. If you're worried about keeping the noise down while chatting with friends, I would recommend visiting alone first to fully appreciate the serene setting. After all, the peaceful ambiance is cultivated and preserved by all of us.
It’s easily to tell that the owner does have lots of zest in Japanese tea culture and is determined to deliver the value through her every item. I almost visited it everyday within my 5-day trip in Manchester. I would say all the dessert and matcha drinks I had from Cha-ology were as good as the most authentic ones I’ve had in Kyoto. Staffs were also very gentle and helpful. Definitely worth of visiting. Highly recommended!
