I was there several times, and every time everyone was more than satisfied with his food and service. Also I am gluten-free and, while there is no actual gluten-free menu, I was able to find something to eat very easily.
Delicious! We had the Empanadas, the BBQ Pork Sandwich and the steak with Chimichurri. Everything was amazing. That may sound silly, but the dressing for the salad that came with the steak was incredibly good. The service was also super friendly and accommodating.
Always fantastic food. Beautiful spicy, very unique and tasteful. Great atmosphere especially on Thursday night, where there is live jazz. Love also the original art on the walls.
I'm not from Maplewood, but I trained from there every day. We have tried many of the restaurants and shops in the area and one day when I left the cinema (two months ago), my wife discovered a sign saying 'Bandeja Paisa' and we were like 'Huh?' What?! Here in Maplewood, have we read this correctly? (Typical foods like these would be found in Elizabeth, Newark, Linden and even Union, not in Maplewood), so we thought it was a fuke or maybe a unique special entree etc. In any case, today we decided to check the sign and noticed that this place had it ON THE MENU! In addition to the statement American Colombian Fusion Cuisine I was sure happy, I wanted to see if it lived up to our expectations (I am the Ecuadorian descent, my wife is from Colombian descent, first generation Americans) so naturally we had to see if this 'typical dish' will be worthy to come back for.... Well, to begin, I'm a picky eater, in the sense that we come out of life in Queens, NY and grow up food in some of the best Latin restaurants of Central South American Cuisine (and I'm the cook in my house, so I can throw down into the kitchen) Since we moved to N.J. 13 years ago, it was hard to find a really good consistent place, I'm sure you can find out that... We LOVE food so that we continue to order the empanadas (bef); {My wife is much more picky than I here, you need to know that there is all about the 'masa', the outer shell}, so the verdict there is: A beautiful thumb up! plus they serve it with green 'pique' I continued to the 'bandeja paisa' and it was great! My wife ordered the Cali Panini (Yummm) The manager/owner Andres was so pleasant and he actually came to advise me that something was not available for my dish, but not a big deal because everything else was great, especially the beans! That was actually my favorite part because I had no beans at least in 14 years. They were fresh, with ground beef and full taste! (most places that serve these are very bland and probably from a can) We look forward to the return and see which other Colombian treasures they will offer or add in the future! Gracias Andres por todo!
It's almost a shame it's called a deli as that does not do justice to the craft with which the owner/chef creates and prepares the selections on the menu. The servers are attentive and energetic. The basics are all scratch-made with care and unique selections offer something for the more adventurous to enjoy.
