In town for our niece 's graduation and decided to stop in for a quick lunch. I 've eaten here several times, but not in a couple of years. I like the other Thai place better but they 've let me down the last couple of times. Thai D closes briefly at 2:30 to get ready for dinner and we arrived around 2 so we didn 't expect it to be as busy as it was. When we walked in the host asked table for one? I looked at my wife to make sure she wasn 't invisible. Sure enough, she was there. I told him two and we were promptly seated. The server came over almost immediately and took our drink order. They offer complimentary iced tea which is nice. Wife chose that but I 'm caffeine sensitive so I opted for plain 'ol boring ice water. She brought me a tea anyway. No water. Thanks. Wife had the Chicken Pad Thai and I ordered the usual yellow coconut curry Chicken medium spice. I stick with what works. We also ordered pork potstickers because it was a long drive and we were starving. Potstickers came out in short order but weren 't really what we expected as they were wrapped in flour and fried. Tasted more like a chicken pot pie crust. They were just okay. Our food came out shortly after and my dish looked great. Wife 's dish didn 't look as spectacular. There was no color. It was just brown. My dish was very flavorful, but they gave me around 4.5 pieces of chicken. This did not sit well as the price tag was $11 for this dish. I could have bought a Kevin 's meal with four times the amount of chicken and same flavor for only $8. I know we 're all suffering from Bidenflation but come on. Also, the potatoes were undercooked. I tried a bite of the pad Thai and the chicken tasted like it was nuked from the night before. Yuck. All in all, this would have gotten a higher rating if they didn 't skimp on the protein. Do better, Thai D.
This place is pretty rough despite all the positive looking reviews. The inside is spectacular and looks very clean and generally nice. It is a comfortable atmosphere with lots of people enjoying the lunch specials. We were seated quickly and only handed the lunch specials menu. The little sweet chili sauce dispenser at the table was dirty as can be and made of glass, which had chipped at the spout. I can't imagine staff has not noticed the broken glass bottles, but that's careless. We ordered the crab rangoon, fried rice, and pad thai. The rangoons were pretty nice. The pad thai was sickly sweet and without balance. Rather than cook with spices, they are sprinkled on top, so every single bite is different. The rice was abysmal. Soft, sopping wet, and absolutely over cooked. I asked for extra eggs, which weren't delivered. The staff said there was a new cook training. It's going to take a lot of training to fix these problems. Subpar.
For locals this may be a good place but I can assure you this is not as advertised whatsoever. The place has appealing decor but Food is mediocre at best. Service was ok, no complaints. First of all, crab rangoons have no crab, just cream cheese. I thought maybe im wrong and don 't see any because they used real crab haha. But server confirmed that they use imitation crab. That 's hard to miss. Gyoza were just like the frozen kind you buy at the store. So were the egg rolls. Pad Thai had a strange after taste, acidic sauce and dry pieces of bland chicken. Chicken fried rice was ok. Usually I take unfinished food to go but it was honestly not worth it. There is zero authenticity at this restaurant. Luckily we are not local, so we easily won 't come back.
Pad Thai delicious. Like amazing. Tom yum. Pretty good. Can we please talk about the fact that there are TWO EMMY awards inside this restaurant? In Marion, Illinois of all places!! Like wow.
