Every 2 years I eat pizza here when I order for my kids and am in a rush. This is your typical Pizza Pizza. It's a Toronto icon but not very good pizza. See you in 2yrs again.
I stopped in for lunch and instead of the usual reliable staff, there was a new guy working the counter. His attitude was not suited for the service industry - he was rude, short-tempered, and made customers feel unwelcome. For example, when a pizza fell on the ground while he was serving other customers, he was dismissive and told them they had to pay for another one. I also tried to order their new deep dish pizza, but he had no idea what I was talking about. Despite these issues, the food is good when fresh, but if that guy is working there, I'll probably just leave.
Pizza Pizza the chain has been around 50 years now and there are dozens of locations in the province. They have a set way of doing things so your pizza is the same if you get it in Barrie, Toronto or Hamilton. They have had a small selection of gourmet pizzas available the last 5 or so years that are a definite improvement. Pizza Pizza has a club you can join that gives you a slight discount after so many orders placed. They offer whole grain and gluten free crusts now as well. They are supposed to offer a time guarantee but by the time you place the call and get the operator to put you through to customer service the driver arrives and sometimes they argue with you about their time of arrival. If you don't mind that they still don't cut pizzas into proper pieces after 50 years then this is the place for you. they free hand cut pizzas so you get 1 piece of 2 inches and another of 7 inches diameter. They carry Coke family products at the usual prices. Skip the salads as the lettuce is wilted every time from any location we have ordered from.
I am giving this restaurant a low review because it is Pizza Pizza. Personally, I do not eat their pizza but I bought it for my kids and their friends. That being said, I arrived at the restaurant to pick up my order (which meant a 20-minute wait). If you order for pick-up in advance, you end up paying more because they do not consider it as a walk-in order. I ordered 2 medium cheese pizzas and fed 5 kids for just under $12 including tax. Although I prefer real pizza, it's hard to beat $12 for a meal. I just wish they allowed walk-ins for pick-up orders so you don't have to wait. Overall, it is more than half the price of delivery.
