Fresh Air Lounge - Marlborough

I know it's listed as closed, but it seems more like a transformation than a permanent closure. The restaurant is now called Hog's Breath Tavern, located at The Farm at Carter Hill. I never had the chance to visit Goats and Roses, and I haven't been to Hog's Breath yet, but I plan to! I've heard that the menu has changed quite a bit and that they've been hosting a lot of weekend events (you can follow them on Facebook for updates). I was looking for this information and recently discovered it, so I wanted to share.

Wow! This place is amazing! The setting is absolutely charming. As you drive in, you might even have to pause for chickens crossing your path! The seating is entirely outdoors, and they provide cozy blankets if the weather is chilly. In the back, there's a deck with various types of tables where you can relax while watching the peacock, chickens, sheep, and goats. They even have a wooden structure for the goats to climb on! The food was heavenly. We shared some onion rings that were cooked to perfection. My son ordered a frittata and let me have a bite—it was perfectly cooked as well. I had the small plate of avocado on French bread, which was delicious! Next time, we’ll definitely save room for dessert!

Interestingly, a group that was seated just 5 minutes after us was immediately served water. My order arrived with chips and slaw, but I only got the sandwich. I must say, the waitresses I interacted with were not very friendly and seemed overwhelmed; the service definitely needs improvement. When we went to order ice cream, my daughter had been waiting patiently for the bill, which I eventually had to request. The guy told us he couldn’t serve us because the ice cream stand wouldn’t be open for another 5 minutes. After such a long wait for everything, we decided it wasn’t worth it anymore and opted to leave. It surprised me that he turned away business when there was another group in front of us wanting to order too! As for the food, my chicken pesto sandwich (I substituted grilled peppers for tomatoes) was absolutely delicious! The cheeseburger had two kinds of cheese and the sweet potato fries were long and tasty. I can't deny that I would love to try more dishes from their menu. This place has great potential, but it really needs to improve its customer service. Also, don’t forget—they only accept cash!

Very intriguing place. The atmosphere and service cannot be beat. The night we were there we enjoyed listening to open microphone musicians, saw farm animals, drank at the bar, ate great food from the outdoor restaurant, walked by fire pits, browsed inside the country store at handmade soaps, and visited the ice cream stand all on the same premises. Lobster crostini were to die for.

This was my first visit. There on an early Sunday evening with friends. I see mostly 5 star reviews but I'm not quite there. It was definitely an interesting experience. My comment walking up was I feel like we are in Vermont! There is s lot going on here and right on Route 66 in Marlborough. It was crowded when we arrived at 5:00 but we only waited 20 minutes. While waiting you can get a beer or wine in the tavern, with limited options. Once you are seated if you need another drink you have to get up and get it. Not sure why? They can bring you water and soft drinks only. The food was very good but the service was slow. Nice, fresh options. They have small, medium and large plates, as well as burgers,sandwiches and salads. My friend and I shared a Teriyaki Chicken Salad and the Lobster Crostini so yummy! A lot of other choices so we all agreed we will be back to try other options. Had a cup of Ice Cream on the way out at the on site Icd cream stand. Very rich and tasty, but fairly small cup for $3.50. The only other thing to note is that this is a cash only establishment, but there is an ATM on the premises.
