We’ve been here so many times and the food and staff have been great. Not sure if there’s new management but the place has changed. The service is very poor and the staff border on rudeness. They serve customers who have just arrived leaving others like us to wait. The food portions are also smaller and the quality is far inferior. Regretfully we won’t be back.
I read about this Maroubra local somewhere online and only remembered it a few weeks later, so we phoned on Friday afternoon and no worries for an early 6pm reservation! In fact there were only 3 couples eating when we arrived although the place was filling quickly from 7pm lots of family groups so clearly the locals know about it! We ordered the Endamame, Agadashi Tofu, Karaage Chicken, sashimi and shared a Ramen ... because we were really hungry! Of course the food all came at once so we just topped it all with a couple of cold draft Sapporos and we were in heaven although a bit overfull after the frenzy : and it was delicious. Servings are generous and the service was quick too. At about $35 a head it was great value so we’ll definitely be back.
Our recent take-away meal was quite disappointing. The sushi was poorly-rolled and fell apart before it could be eaten. The seaweed was under-seasoned. Some pieces of the karaage chicken did not exactly smell fresh. At least the yaki gyoza and edamame were reasonable. Maybe it was just a bad night in the kitchen but we will not be returning in a hurry.
Visited with friends and the staff were very nice and helpful and the food delicious. A good menu and value for money. We've eaten there many times and will continue to do so. One downside in that the air conditioning was not turned on. It was a very warm night but it was too stuffy and uncomfortable in the restaurant. We did ask the staff to turn it on and whilst they went to the controls, nothing happened. May be trying to reduce costs?
