Classic British cuisine is not commonly found in the Sydney food scene, aside from gastropubs. However, at Kitchen by Jamie in Maroubra, we were pleasantly surprised to find it as the main feature on the menu. Owned by British chef Jamie Dyball, the restaurant offers contemporary versions of British classics using quality ingredients. The menu also includes hints of French influence, such as the delicious Duck Pate with red onion relish and homemade brioche that we enjoyed as a starter. The restaurant recently received a visit from British celebrity chef Rick Stein, who seems to have been searching for authentic British fare in Sydney.
I highly recommend visiting Kitchen by Jamie at Maroubra Junction for a dining experience. I appreciate food that has a backstory, and I find Kitchen by Jamie charming. Years ago, Jamie and Daniela invited me and some friends to their home for a 'Dine with...' event, which was like a dinner party with a skilled chef. The food was delicious and unique, and it felt like being at home.
