The Dark Horse Tavern - Massapequa Park

Date of Visit: October 28, 2023 My sister chose to visit this restaurant after her daughter's dedication at a large church to celebrate. Although the menu appeared enticing, the food ended up being a letdown. I struggled to decide on what to order. Initially, I ordered fries for my son, who refused to eat them, so others at the table ended up consuming them. I then ordered pretzel bites for my son, which he also did not touch, leading me and my sister's husband's friend across the table to eat some. I opted for the stuffed brie pretzel bites, but found them lacking in brie cheese and the fig jam dip too watery for my preference. The empanadas I ordered were somewhat dry as well. Overall, my experience at Dark Horse Tavern was underwhelming, and I am uncertain if I would return soon. Despite this, I must commend the server for their exceptional service in managing a large group of people efficiently. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I visited Dark Horse Tavern on October 28, 2023 with my sister and her family to celebrate her daughter's dedication at a nearby mega church. Despite the enticing menu, we were disappointed with the food. I ordered fries for my son, but he didn't touch them, so others at the table ended up eating them. I then tried the pretzel bites, which my son also didn't eat, so I ended up sharing them with others. I ordered the stuffed brie pretzel bites, but found there wasn't enough brie cheese and the fig jam dip was too watery for my taste. The empanadas I tried were also a bit dry. Overall, I was not impressed with the dining experience at Dark Horse Tavern and may not return soon. However, I must say that the server did a great job handling our large party efficiently.

The restaurant is nice, but on weekends at night it tends to attract a younger crowd, with a lot of young adults drinking excessively and causing disturbances. The service and food are both rated at a 4 out of 5, while the atmosphere is a 3 out of 5. Recommended dishes include the Chicken Panini, Cheeseburger, and Fries. The average price per person for a meal is $20-30.

Dark Horse is a chain but this is my favorite location. It's a small location so I'd recommend reservations on the weekend. But during the week you should be able to get a seat. Food is basic pubfare and they do everything well. Burgers, wings, sandwiches, etc. There is a decent craft beer menu too. The servers are nice and helpful.
