Looking for a nicer restaurant I decided to give El Gourmand a try solely based on the reviews but what a find it is! It is located in an alley off the main street in Mataró and easy to find. Doesn't open until 2030 in the evening, but hey, we are in Spain! The premises are very clean, of course clean as in non-dirty but also a very clean design. To start things we had 2 glasses of cava to go with the calamares andaluza and pan. The most surprising part was the many tastes from the food. There was fish and lemon (as calamares should taste) but some other tastes from the sauce giving it a slight but perfect Asian taste. For mains we had filled raviolis and pig pluma, both were excellent and I would without a doubt have them both again. Just as for the starters there are many tastes which all add up to the perfect mix. The red wine by the glass turned out to ge very good as well. And finally, Crema Catalana. But not the traditional way. Of course, there is a large element of traditional Creama Catalana but also crumbles and sorbet which yet again added up to a superb taste final. It wasn't on the menu but the waiter found some excellent Moscatel to go with the dessert. Oh yes, the waiter was just so attendative and friendly. All this for 69 euros, I can not think you can get a better upper scale meal in Mataró for this price, go there and try for yourself.
