Howard-dooley Cafe - Mathews

This restaurant has great home made dishes. The fried chicken dinner is awesome! All desserts are made from scratch. Great service, reasonable pricing and good food. What is not to like!

So we ate at “Ho-Do”s” (that’s my nickname for it now) for the first time last week. I wanted to let the visit settle in before I wrote this review. We don’t eat out a lot and just moving back to Mathews county after being gone for 20 years there are more than a few really good restaurant choices. They stand out as a great choice in every way. It’s a comfortable welcoming atmosphere, the staff is friendly and attentive. The place is spotless inside plus the food was fresh and awesome. We had a group of five and everyone got something different from seafood to chicken salad including burgers and barbecue, it was all fresh and cooked to perfection. Even the soft serve cones were picture perfect (the one she did after ours was a little wonky looking but that’s not her fault). I’m looking forward to heading back for breakfast soon. It has moved to the top of the list for us when it comes to choices to eat. I’m going to be back often.

I ordered a pork bbq sandwich, slaw on side with cucumbers salad. the buns weren’t toasted so the bread became a little mushy. Slaw was good. cucumber salad was good. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

We were visiting from Richmond for our anniversary weekend and stopped in by chance on our way home. What a pleasant surprise! Gracious, welcoming staff and made to order delicious breakfast what a fantastic combination. Thank you for taking good care of us! We'll be sure to visit again next time we're in the area.
