I stumbled upon this restaurant by chance and had never heard of oyaki until I saw it on the menu. Oyaki are traditional filled rolls from Nagano. The dough is vegan and the fillings can range from vegetables, meat, fish, to red beans. Some versions are sweet only. There are also tables set up outside directly above the road for dining. I tried two oyaki (wild veggies and pumpkin) and was satisfied for the whole afternoon. They were also incredibly delicious!
We decided to visit this restaurant based on the reviews to try some traditional Oyaki, and we were not let down. The owner was fantastic and spoke English well. I highly suggest trying the red bean paste Oyaki - it's the perfect snack while exploring the castle. Just keep in mind that the store doesn't open until around 10:30 or 11am.
I stumbled upon this restaurant by chance and was pleasantly surprised to discover oyaki, traditional filled buns from Nagano. The dough is vegan and the fillings range from vegetables, meat, fish, to red bean. The shop clearly labels the vegetarian options. Additionally, there are crate tables outside near city hall where you can sit and enjoy your meal. I tried the wild vegetable and pumpkin oyaki and they were filling and delicious, keeping me satisfied for the whole afternoon.
