This is a typical, very early cafe restaurant that is still at this time worth a visit, you need not far to be critical so is best approached to know that it is a mess whether you get what you have ordered and...if the quality is another thing. It is a drop in place for some locals, several animals to appreciate any tits bits. The Daft thing about that is that I would come back, it is the experience of a place that is in a timewarp, they do their best, so be friendly, do not look up and allow some time. I crossed the OK for business, provided it's not a white collar. The waitress does her best, but she has to do more.
This is a typical rural café and if you expect more don't got there. It has been in the same famiiy forever and is one of the oldest continuously open cafes in France 1880s. The restaurant is in a lovely old art nouveau room. The...food is typical gascon fare, chicken and chips, duck and chips, steak and chips etc. But is all freshly cooked. The staff are very friendly and the meal costs very little, but don't expect gourmet, you won't get it.
The restaurant looks delightful in the area close to the war memorial. We ordered the midday menu. We sat and sat and after an hour the starter arrived. One melon and ham fine, warm goats cheese and honey poor. A mountain of lettuce, two small...pieces of bread and almost invisible goats cheese and a suggestion of honey. Then another hour and main course, slab of turkey and some fried potato. Alas we were told they had run out of all desserts but eventually found one ice cream and a cup of coffee. Coffee not on set meal but as a gesture we could have that cup free! Three hours after sitting down we left! We were not the only disgruntled diners. Such a pity because it could have been so good in such a pretty restaurant. Poor quality food and dreadful service. The worst meal we have ever had.
We arrived one night at the mauvezin and found a warm welcome, a home duck foie gras with white wine. we were very pleasantly surprised and discussed with the boss on her specialties. among them the cassoulet that requires a day of preparation. The boss, daniele, proposed to make it for the day-to-day. Rendez-vous was taken for lunch. and it was an excellent meal with an entrance (soupe of vegetables) followed by a plate of crudities or charcuterie. And finally, for dessert, a pastry shop with local apples. Thank you again.
