They also offer wine at a reasonable price, and it is definitely worth spending time there. Two things stood out to me: the incredible views of Malta from the terrace, where you can enjoy a pleasant breeze (at least when I visited in October 2010), and their delicious homemade cakes. The portion size was generous, as you can see in the picture. I would definitely go back on another clear day.
Located in the heart of Mdina, just behind the fortress overlooking the surrounding countryside in Rabat, Fontanella is a popular tea garden, café, bar, and restaurant among tourists visiting the fortified city. Its local panoramic terrace offers breathtaking views of the extraordinary landscape, reaching all the way to the sea. While prices may be on the higher side, the establishment's prime location in tourist-heavy Mdina justifies this. If you find yourself in Mdina and in need of a coffee or a refreshing drink, be sure to stop by Fontanella.
I had already been recommended the place, it was also in a Malta guide that I bought, and to end the visit to Mdina, the silent city decided to recharge at La Fontanella. It is a tea room with a cafeteria, they also have wines... it is not expensive and it is worth spending there. I would like to highlight 2 things: the unique views it offers of Malta, on a terrace where it is very comfortable with the breeze, at least when I was there (it was October 2010), and the homemade pastries. Oh my God! So delicious... a large portion as you can see in the photo! I will definitely go back! (another day of course).
