The bartender and chef were both very friendly, and the chef clearly cares about his work. Despite the cold, damp weather in Rochester, the warm and inviting atmosphere at the Eagle Tavern was wonderful.
This was our first visit to Rochester. We were performing at the cathedral and had some time off for lunch. While walking down High Street, we stumbled upon The Eagle Tavern and what a pleasant surprise it was! It's a true local pub with friendly staff, delicious beer, and amazing food made from locally sourced ingredients by a chef who clearly takes pride in his work - especially the Yorkshire puddings. Our Sunday roasts were both generous in size and high in quality, especially considering the price. A special thank you to the bar staff who chased after me with my phone as we left, and to the chef who came out to personally chat with us. We also enjoyed chatting with some of the locals. It's a fantastic pub you have there, Folk! We'll see you next time we're in town!
Your pub is run by the most unfriendly people ever Run by a rugby type at the bar With no sense of humour. When cornered will call the manageress who seems to spend most of her time upstairs Insulted my disabled missus Made no provisions for her And insulted my daughter in law because she joked about buying our Grandson a pint (joke ya know) Waited ages for our food We cancelled the order Upon which we were greeted with a barrage of abuse Both from Rugby Type and Rottweiler Manageress She accused my partner of being a 'troublemaker ' who she had seen before? Funny that as she can 't walk more than a few steps unaided and had never been in there before My daughter in law? A bad mother I 'd rather get a carry out and drink in the gutter
Randomly after about 2-3 rounds of drinks someone decided it was time to cut a member of our party off and said he’d “had enough”loudly across the bar. Everyone was baffled as this person had actually drunk less than everyone else having joined our party late. We moved on and visited 2 other pubs that night and not one other pub refused this person alcohol funny enough. I also visited here earlier on in the year and they just close when they want to despite what the hours say online, really rude staff.
I would recommend avoiding this restaurant. During our visit with a group of four, the barman rudely and falsely accused one of our group of being drunk. This accusation was shouted at us from behind the bar. The staff here are very impolite and unpleasant, so I would suggest looking elsewhere for dining options.
