I'd say the savory food is probably the best of any of the high teas that we've had in Melbourne and the desserts aren't too bad at all. I'm not really a dessert person but I did go back for seconds on a few items. The staff are friendly and efficient; my only criticism (a small one) is that there don't seem to be enough of them, I think for about half an hour after I finished my first cup of tea, I was waiting for a refill and not a waiter/waitress in sight.Generally though, excellent job, I've already told a few foodie friends to check it out, as the food is quite memorable.
Had breakfast here whilst staying a few nights in Melbourne, food was plentiful, heaps of choices and catered for many tastes hot, cold and pastry/continental.Service was a little slow at busier times, especially if you wanted a coffee. Ample setting on many configurations, so suitable for both social and business occasions.
Let me start by saying that the food here was great. My wife's overseas family were staying here for a few days, and so we had a group of 7. We were served by Maddy, who was a genuine, authentic no-pretences kind of waitress - very sweet and very glad we were served by her during the night.I'll advise why I gave this restaurant an average rating. You see, I had been driving the family around all day so they insisted on shouting us dinner at the Grand Hyatt, where Burncity Pop Up / Collins Kitchen is. I was dressed in jeans and sneakers, so not quite your suit&tie diner. I'll admit, I wasn't comfortable eating here but what can I do - my extended family insisted. Cut a long story short - I spotted a mouse. No one else on the table did. I went to discreetly speak to a waiter called "J" who was dismissive with a ""we are looking into it" response. I didn't want to make a fuss, as we had 2 teenage girls at the table. Just felt like I deserved an acknowledgment, you know? Took down his name. Was later approached by restaurant manager. Decided to step away from the table to talk. Was disappointed that the response was defensive, eg. how it was cold and that mice tend to flock to warm environments. I was more concerned at this stage to be honest, by the dismissive attitude of one of their staff. They were accomodating and very good about it afterwards, and everyone said the food was delicious. I couldn't agree more. Good night, just moderately marred by a judgemental waiter.
This is one of my favourite hotel restaurants. The food was absolutely faultless the night we dined, and the service was excellent. We did not have the buffet, but dined from the al la carte menu.It was a very wet, cold night, and we sat in the booth by the window, watching the world go by. It was fantastic. From the moment we arrived, the experience here was fantastic, and we can't wait to go back.
Buffets aren't usually my preference but this breakfast one is great. Lots of variety, so fresh and coffees included. The dinners are great also, plentiful servings.
