Nestled in the heart of Yarraville, Heal.Thy Self Co prides itself on a plant based, free range, organic, fair trade, ethical and sustainable menu. As such, there are plenty of vegan options on their menu.Featuring both an indoor and outdoor dining area (the outdoor area is dog friendly – great place to get your dog fix!) it’s a hot spot in Yarraville on the weekends. Orders are placed at the counter and the service is friendly, fast and attentive. I couldn’t look past the vegan Antiox Acai Bowl for $15.50. With a base of acai berry sorbet, sprinkled with house made granola, crispy coconut chips and garnished with fresh strawberry, banana and apple I did not regret my decision! I loved the variety of textures and flavours; the smooth acai sorbet with delicious crunchy granola plus the soft and crisp fruit combo. I felt like I was having another indulgent dessert breakfast but in reality this bowl was incredibly healthy! On the side I had the “Be Kind” vegan smoothie, full of berries, banana, lucuma, berry protein, and coconut yoghurt. My partner enjoyed the Avocado Super Smash (also a vegan dish, however he added an egg to it) which consisted of smashed avo, sourdough, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, broad beans, coriander, lemon and pomegranate - $14.90 with a Locale espresso cappuccino with Shultz milk (both of which are organic).Their display cabinet is full of yummy yet healthy treats catering to many dietary requirements including vegan, organic, gluten free and dairy free .On the drinks menu they are on trend with healthy drink alternatives such as the Dandi latte (dandelion, wattleseed and cinnamon), Kombucha, cold pressed juice, a large selection of super smoothies and their “immunity shot”. Plus they have house made almond milk as well as organic oat milk or Bon Soy for your milk based drinks.Check out Heal.Thy Self for delicious yet guilt free dining!By vegoutmelbourne
Heal. Thy. Self Co. (Take a moment to appreciate the great word play here) is a little further down from the bustling green lawn of Ballarat Street. It is next to a human-size carrot graffiti in a Doggies jersey that is high on life. Black signage card comes with a disclaimer that you will be very happy after eating here. We can definitely second that. The interior has this really nice chill vibe about it. I like the small little potted plants on each table and the fairy lights behind the counter. Menu states that they try to always obtain the freshest produce from local businesses, they can do no wrong.Naming their power smoothies Be Loving, Be Kind, Be Passionate, etc. highlights how a healthy mind and attitude is as important as taking care of your body. My partner and I were swamped with wedding planning all week and thought that the Be Loving would be rather fitting. We also went for the Mixed Berry pancake (special), Zen Bowl, and a cup of cappuccino.Cuppa was average but it's kind of hard to give a verdict when for the first time my coffee did not take the center stage on the brunch table. Be Loving smoothy was divine, can't go wrong with raw cacao, chocolate and banana. Texture was thick and creamy with a hint of coconut taste to it. Could picture drinking this bad boy after a long overdue abs workout session in the morning. #AmericanPsycho Mixed berry pancakes is made out of buckwheat/spelt/ coconut flour. Buckwheat and spelt is packed with protein and high in fiber, filling me up really quickly. The hint of coconut in the flour reminded me of Malaysian pancakes called "Apam Balik" which is made out of coconut milk and pandan leaves.Buckwheat appeared again in the form of soba noodles in our Zen Bowl. Miso tempeh is like the chewable version of miso soup. filled every corner of our taste buds with miso soup. The noodles were dressed in this really lovely wasabi-like mayo-like sauce, giving us this very Japanese feel. This is a nice change from our usual greasy brunch offerings of pork and eggs. It's been a while since we both had such a satisfying brunch. Eating clean really does make you feel good.
I found this place to be a little too fancy for my likings. Hipster cool healthy. my order was confused but interesting, ordered savoury pancakes and got super sweet ones. They were happy to make more, but i'm not into wasting food, so went with the sweeter than sweet meal. I also felt too old and I'm only 40. Back to feedback cafe for me. x
Went in for a coffee pre movie on Saturday afternoon told that no food available but serving coffee still, wanted to sit inside and chat, ordered coffees and when brought to table told we needed to drink the in 10 minutes as closing at 4pm! If they said that to start we would have gone elsewhere! Won't be back and never recommend them!
