I enjoyed the noodles at this restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful in recommending their favorite dishes. The food was a bit spicy, but I liked it. I would definitely return to this place.
Despite this restaurant having closed several months ago (dare I say it, a year ago?...oh how time flies) I wish to say a few things to redeem the reputation of a restaurant which I will sadly miss. I had the pleasure of eating at Nudel bar on several occasions, indulging in a cheeky extended lunch break here and there (because yes, the service can be a little short of prompt) Having said that, their curry laksa is like nothing I've ever had before, and I've certainly had my fair share of laksas. Basically, what I'm saying is that I'll miss this place despite some of its shortcomings. And for those of you who call the service poor, didn't you ever meet the nice middle aged lady who takes care of her customers like they're her children? She made that place like a home. Anyway, I hope someone can recommend a restaurant in Melbourne's CBD which can surpass the quality of Nudel Bar. And preferably cheaper! You know those places which charge $10 for a laksa? That's because they taste like $10.
As a long-time diner at Nudel Bar, I dined there again on Wednesday, I find the comments in the review of June 17 hard to believe. This restaurant is sensitive to dietary requirements and diners are asked to advise wait staff of any allergies. I have always found the service to be as good as the food; in other words, excellent!
My friend ordered the Chicken Broth, which listed every ingredient on the menu except bean sprouts. She is allergic to legumes. When she had an anaphylactic attack, she very politely asked for another, and pointed out that bean sprouts were not listed on the menu. There was then a misunderstanding about the bill (we misread it). The owner and waiter assumed that we had refused to pay for the chicken broth (which we thought we had paid for). They both became very aggressive and made personal insults, calling us "childish" and saying that it was my friend's fault for assuming that there wouldn't be bean sprouts (?????). We pointed out that she could have died but the owner continued to be abusive. I think this is a great shame, because I have eaten here many times before and enjoyed it. The food is great but I will NOT be eating here again. If you are allergic to legumes, don't eat here, and if you have a complaint, don't bother mentioning it. Shocking service.
