I've come here many times and if I lived in Box Hill I would be here all the time.Tonight, the service was super fast, and the food was on point as always. The chicken was grilled well and had such a lovely lemongrass flavour. The prices are also affordable, and the service is friendly. Will keep returning for years.
In addition to the traditional chicken and beef pho, Pho 888 has expanded their menu to include variations such as seafood, grilled chicken, and crispy pork, as well as banh mi, rice paper rolls, and spring rolls. I was pleased to find that despite the new additions, Pho 888 has maintained their high standards for their classic dishes. My special chicken pho was a flavorful and comforting bowl of rice noodles, chicken, and broth. As I slurped down the noodles, I could feel my man flu symptoms fading away. My only complaint would be that there could have been a bit more chicken in the dish.
The broth is fantastic, with a perfect balance of flavors, making it ideal for a winter's day. The large serving size is quite generous, so I recommend getting a small portion unless you plan on sharing with your children. The spring rolls were a bit thin, but still enjoyable.
Pho 888 serves their phở all day, topped with options like rare beef, beef balls, and tripe. Other dishes such as cơm tấm (broken rice), bún bò huế (hot beef and pork noodle soup), and bún thịt nướng (vermicelli salad) are also available for warmer days. The phở is served in Southern Vietnamese style, with a platter of bean sprouts, fresh chili, lemon, and Thai basil. Feel free to ask for more spring onion and white onion to add to your meal. The beef broth at Pho 888 is simmered for hours, resulting in a clear and fragrant soup with a rich beef flavor enhanced by hints of charred ginger, cinnamon, and other spices. The rice noodles are soft and velvety, while the meat is tender and plentiful. The only downside may be the lack of non-cash payment options, but there are ATMs nearby for convenience. For many, withdrawing cash in Box Hill is synonymous with enjoying a feast at Pho 888 – a Pavlovian response that is always welcome.
We enjoyed the vermicelli with spring rolls, the vermicelli with grilled chicken and some prawn rice paper rolls. For drinks the Thai milk tea and the three colour drink. Food is delicious as always. On occasion they get the order wrong but who doesn’t make mistakes?
