Located so close to the water, you can actually get that beachside feeling. I got the special – didn’t think too much. Man was I surprised – this place was amazing.
Decided to lunch at Sea on Quay today and chose their grilled Blue Grenadier fish with Chunky Chips and homemade tartare sauce (no unknown additives) a piece of lemon for $11.90 (yes, I spent the extra dollar to eat healthy as opposed to battered fish). Seriously one of the best Fish Chip shops in Melbourne and visibly spotlessly clean. The fish was tasty and the chunky chips were to die for, I was very impressed. Sian, the head chef I assume owner was very friendly and he served my meal steaming hot within 15 minutes of ordering (I was his first customer at 11:55am). The establishment by 12:15pm was abuzz with about 12 customers either waiting for their order or in the process of ordering, or eating always a sign of great food.<br/ <br/ The Juror's Verdict: Food 4.85/5, Service Provision 5/5, Will I return: Yes, definitely soon<br/ <br/ Update: Aug 14, 2017 I've eaten here almost weekly ever since my first visit (above) seriously the range of food's quality just never seems to change it's consistently great.<br/ <br/ Phill Jury (food critic writer)
The fish and chips at this off-the-beaten-path restaurant are excellent. The shop is welcoming and clean, with a notice board advertising the daily special and a price board showing the origin of each fish, either Australia or New Zealand. The fish is cooked perfectly and the chips are delicious and just the right portion size. It's definitely worth the walk from the city center.
I recently dined at a charming fish and chips restaurant with great decor and friendly staff. They offer outdoor seating, a selection of alcoholic beverages, and a variety of food options, including pack options. I tried the grilled flake pack, which included a delicious piece of fish, chips with tartare sauce, and a refreshing Asian herb slaw. The meal was served on a board and was both delicious and generous in portion size. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant regularly and highly recommend it.
My family I visited Sea on Quay several times whilst on a family holiday to Melbourne and we all found the food and service to be superb, the fish was cooked to perfection either in or out of batter and the salads and potato cakes were superb. We will definitely visit Sea on Quay again when back in Australia/Melbourne and would like to say thank you again for the food and service.
