I've eaten at the Station hotel about 8-10 times and have been impressed every time. The food is always very good (well, I have only had the steak), as is the service. This is not your local pub where you get $15 steaks. The food is top class and you pay a fair price for the quality. I will be there again in a few days with some colleagues. Salivating is anticipation.
We were told that this pub prides itself on their steaks - and it is no idle boast. On a busy Saturday night (we were advised to book a table which was a good move as the dining room was packed) our party of four ordered a different steak each, cooked to our individual preferences, and they were served to us at the same time and exactly as ordered. The accompanying salad was simple and delicious, and the sauces were excellent. The waiting staff were very friendly and efficient, there when you needed something but not hovering. An excellent choice of wines to accompany the steaks, and we had just enough room (not really!) to share their delightful panna cotta.I would recommend!
Out for dinner with my partner, a solid meat lover. I attempted to order, however was confronted with one vegetarian main - an uninspiring "wild rice" salad with the usual suspects...lettuce, tomato, onion. As well as being uninspiring it was 5 degrees outside and I was after something warm, comforting and yummy. I asked the waitress if a plate of vegetables was possible. No. I was promptly and curtly referred to the side dishes. The snooty waitress was obviously a meat lover - meat was her religion. I am surprised the desserts are not infused with bacon-bits or incorporate essence of beef cheek. So, if you have a work, family, or social gathering at the Station Hotel and you are a vegetarian I suggest one of two things: feign illness and stay home, or eat before you go.
Have eaten here before and always quite enjoyable, it's close to work so we are regular patrons.Ordered for lunch today 16 June a sweet potato risotto with sweet potato chips. When placing the order at the counter I checked with the person taking the order to ensure there would be (sweet potato) hot chips with the risotto. When the food came out I received a small bowl of risotto with 3 tiny slivers of sweet potato shavings on top. They were so miniscule you'd easily overlook them, like a garnish of nothing. About a centimetre long by 4mm.I questioned the waiter where the chips were and he told me he would check. He returned and said that those slivers on top are the 'potato chips.I asked if he could bring out some hot chips and he said I'll see what I can do.That was it, no chips and didn't come back either.Very disappointing to have a misleading menu and very poor service from this guy. It'll be a while before I return to this place.I would not have written this review had the waiter had the courtesy of at least coming back to me.Now I'm hungry....:-/
