Having made it back home for a short stay, I have been re-familiarising myself with a number of the cafes in the area.I tried The Daily Grind in Pratt St and found myself a bit underwhelmed - even for breakfast.Ordered the poached eggs on sourdough - 2 eggs on one slice of toast - other cafes in the area serve on two slices; plate was cold not warmed; the price was considerably more than others which I have tried in this last week
Dropped in around 7:30am for a medium skinny chino prior to heading off to work. Cafe was already busy with quite a few having breakfast. Diners seemed to be mainly local mature residents. Service was clinical by the young female server and coffee was nothing special.
Had breakfast here with my partner and a friend on a Sunday morning. Had to sit at a very small table as all larger tables near the windows were taken up by solo people reading the paper. Not much the establishment can do about this, but please, solo diners take note! This annoys people! Food was good, I had the potato hash and others had the Spanish omelette (average... Too much chorizo) and the salted caramel French toast (delicious). The one significant let down was the waiter who brought us the wrong flavour milkshake (he had picked up an old docket from an earlier group at our table) and was then quite abrupt when he discovered we HAD ordered a milkshake, just not the flavour he brought us... He said sarcastically 'oh so you DID order a milkshake' then slammed the milkshake down on the table. Another staff member saw that and apologised- unfortunate that it was required. Never an excuse to get snippy when you bring the wrong item... All in all, wouldn't go back. Bad service is my pet hate...
I shall not be returning, $4.50 for a cup of tea is dearer than the CBD.This is for an English BreAkfast tea bag, nothing fancy,
