Perfect location close to the centre of Melrose. Although very disappointed with the hotel, staff doesn't seem to be motivated and had no intention to hide it either. Our room was on the second floor and both flights of stairs needed a good vacuum clean, not very inviting. The room itself is very basic, coffee and tea tray with cups used by the previous guests was still there and the shower room could benefit from a good clean as well. We liked to make coffee on arrival and took the dirty cups down to reception to exchange them for clean ones, this was clearly irritating the staff although I think as guests paying £190 we should have been entitled to clean cups in our room. No apologies were made just a scowling face when we were handed clean(ish) cups. As it was prepaid we decided to stay but went out for drinks and food at the hotel next door. Sorry to say but I would not recommend to stay at George Abbottford hotel. Rooms: 2 Service: 1 Location: 5
