Shibui Japanese - Miami

So sad with the change in management and food quality. They made the place look pretty but the food is now awful and expensive. So sad. I use to come here at least once a week for the last 10 years. It's very heart breaking how they have changed a place that brought so much joy and happiness to not only me but other life long clients. Very very sad.

Shibui opened its’ doors in 1981. I’ve been a customer for over 15 years. I remember passing by Shibui when I was younger. I’m now 54. So I have first hand experience with the evolution of the cuisine, the decor, and the changes in ownership. The food used to be superb even the last owner put her stamp on updating the decor, which was long overdue. The change in ownership this past year or two has been quite disappointing. The owner is no longer a host. The front house employees hosting lack personality and are lackluster at best. The place now offers reservations, but it turns away local walk-ins with a one hour expected wait. (This has happened on two occasions. If you order pick-up food, you will be routed to the side entrance to pick up your food from an unidentified door. It opens and you feel like you are the Uber Eats driver picking up your food. You will be greeted with a view to the stockroom and a paper bag. It was unsettling to say the least. Do they realize these are the very same customers that dine inside paying well over $80? As a longtime customer or any customer for that matter, this is a low rate idea. Who ever came up with this, doesn’t know how to manage customer expectations. The food is not bad, but it lacks the authenticity it once had, not to mention the ginger is subpar. The one good thing is that it is now open for lunch and thankfully they have kept some of the older servers, which provide a familiar and welcoming face to a longtime family restaurant in the heart of Kendall. I love this place!! You get such good sushi for such a fair price! You won’t find many places where you can get 4 rolls of sushi, a dessert and an App for $70. Aly was our server and she was the SWEETEST throughout our whole experience. Really gave sweet nana vibes!
