We each got a cup of Del's from one of their trucks that was parked at Fort Adams State Park (we happened to see several trucks around Newport that day). To our surprise, our hand-dipped cup didn't come with a spoon or straw, so you really just gulp it down like a beverage. It wasn't too sweet, which we appreciated, but was very refreshing and hit the spot on a near-record hot day.
Dels was a much welcomed treat after doing the Cliff Walk. I had seen it on Thames Street, but saw the truck at Easton Beach, and decided to try it. It was so refreshing, and not as tart as lemonade. When there’s a line of people at an establishment, you know it has to be good. The only thing that would’ve made it easier to eat is if we were given a spoon, but it was still worth it.
Anytime I'm in Newport, I get the Del's! What are the Del's? The Del's are a feeling you get when you must have the most delicious frozen lemonade. A must have, sweet and sour! Don't drink it too fast, you'll get a headache. Don't drink it too slow, it will get watered down. Drink it at a moderate pace and your in the zone! Don't forget the little lemon rind pieces! Ooh baby!
I was able to sample both the lemon flavor and watermelon at Easton’s Beach. Both were a welcome refreshment on a hot, summer day. I was able to sip or scoop with their special, red straw. Just enough sweetness, and the flavor lasted right through to the end. The only caution is to beware of brain-freeze from drinking too enthusiastically!
