Cafe Zinc - Midland

I chose the Eggs Benedict for breakfast on a Sunday morning, paired with a mimosa. The service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was lovely. I highly recommend this place!

Today (3/14), my wife and I went to Cafe Zinc for lunch. After a bad experience of years ago (link below), we felt somewhat apprehensive, but lacking a better local choice we went anyway. [hidden link] This time, everything was much better, our food was tasty and well prepared, and even though service is still not up to par, we enjoyed the experience. The place was essentially full, and very noisy. Luckily, by mid-lunch it quieted down significantly. I really enjoyed my French Onion Soup and Hamburger. All rich and prepared. The setting is elegant, the ambiance was nice in general. My wife was also satisfied with her food. However, I felt the hostess was somewhat dismissive and aloof. Our waiter did everything correctly by the most part, but he forgot to indicate how we could order dessert. When he asked about our dessert order, I replied; I would like to see what you have , expecting to get a list, he walked away and said nothing, a minute later he came back with the bill !!!!!. Actually, they do not have a list or menu, you need to get up, walk to the bakery, look at the choices and order. Finally, we went to the bakery, order our pastries, and when we sat back down, the waiter came up with only one dessert, and two forks. Somehow things did not communicate well today at Cafe Zinc.

Best restaurant in Midland by some margin. Service is top notch and the food is unbeatable in the area. I will continue to frequent for business meetings and special events.

I liked my dinner, it was a chicken dish, and the vegetables were good also. Service was very good. Server was very good as was hostess. As you can see the stools don't have a back on them, and should be replaced with chairs with backs on them that would be more comfortable and appropriate for fine dining. In fact, those types of stools to sit on, are not appropriate anywhere in this day and age, except perhaps at a very lowly establishment. So I am taking one star away for that.

I've been a longtime fan of Café Zinc and have dined there numerous times for both lunch and dinner. The ambiance and menu continue to be outstanding, but I've noticed a significant decline in the service. The speed, attentiveness, and overall care for customers have unfortunately diminished over time. My last three visits were, without a doubt, below average.
