Authentic Mexican ambiance similar to Fonda el Refugio. Prices slightly lower and excellent service.
After exploring the anthropology museum for a few hours we were hungry, and because Trip Advisor, we came to Las Mercedes. And we were super happy we did. Not many people there in the mid-afternoon, which initially made me a bit nervous, but our grumpy...but charming waiter soon put an end to that. But it's okay, because really the thing here is el orgullo de la casa, el chile en nogada. Neither my wife nor I have had anything quite like it before. An unexpected and spectacular combination of textures and flavors, it's the kind thing that resets your expectations around cuisine and sets off a series of associations that just make you happy. Which is what this place did. It made us very, very happy. Strongly recommended, especially after you've earned it over at the museums. We walked in and were seated immediately on a mid afternoon Saturday.

The staff were attentive never letting our tequila glasses get below half empty. Being visitors, we...had to try the ant eggs, which were actually pretty good. I wish I could go back and have that meal again.
One of the more traditional Meican and Spanish restaurants, it exudes style and traditiion (think small wardrobe stands for ladies' handbags). The food was execellent, starting with an amuse-gueule of fresh sauteed mushrooms. I had the vegetarian platter and my partner the filet steak. Amazing...More
