Located in the massive shopping center that is the Milpitas 99 Ranch off Barber Lane, it sits in a center that has a seemingly endless amount of places to eat from. All the way on one side of this long shopping center. If you're standing by Mayflower, you're on the wrong side of the shopping center, and need to head to the other direction to find Shanghai Delight. Think of 99 Ranch as the divider for each half. From the outside, it really doesn't look like much. Similar to most of the other restaurants abound, lots of menu items plastered all over the windows, and when you get inside, it's really not much to look at again as it has a very old Chinatown restaurant look to it. Doesn't seem like anything inside has been remodeled here for several years now, but looks can be deceiving, and here, that is certainly the case. Pricing wise, they aren't cheap, but for their lunch specials, it's actually quite a good bang for your buck as the dishes you get with your rice and soup appear to be the standard portions if you order it separately as an entree, so makes it well worth the price for the amount you get. Food aspect of everything, also not bad as well. The soup was meh, as it's free anyways as a part of the lunch special, but the fish and the pork dish were well done. They also have to have soup dumplings too for a Shanghai place. The fish was well cooked, and the seasoning and everything to it was on the blander side for me, but still tasty nonetheless. The pork belly dish was tasty, but probably went a bit too heavy on the saucing, as it was just drenched in that darker sauce they use for the dish. It's a bit spicy too, so just be aware, but hey, it was tasty. The soup dumplings here are quite comparable to some of the better ones I've had at other restaurants. Nothing is worse for a soup dumpling than not having enough juices on the inside of it when you bite into it. The ones here at Shanghai Delight does not have such a problem with theirs. The service is decent. Nothing out of the ordinary, but they are friendly and helpful. You would not really come here for the atmosphere, unless you really wanted that feel of a very downscale type of feel. However, the food here is solid, and the price isn't too bad compared to all of the many food locations at this shopping center. Decor aside, Shanghai Delight is worth a visit for those who wants some flavorful dishes, and of course, some nice soup dumplings done well.
I love the combo selection (3 dishes +1 soup choice= $40) , very good portion size for two people considering as a Shanghai restaurant...the taste is ok, little bit salty as well as oily, but overall is good, will definitely go back to try other combos...
Found a nice little spot in Milpitas Square to grab a quick lunch with my parents. We tried a few dishes and it was better than I expected. Parking: free parking lot parking. We tried a few different dishes since it was our first time there and we don 't find out that way often. We ordered the wonton soup, large version, not the small ones. At first, I thought they meant size of the order, but I was wrong. When they ask large or small, they meant the type of wonton. I guess the large ones has more ingredients and meat. It was ok. The soup had seaweed in it, which was tasty. Reminded me of the seaweed soup my parents made at home. But the wontons itself seem to lack some flavor. Maybe because I 'm used to the fresh taste that shrimp gives in wontons, so I wasn 't used to it without. (These don 't contain shrimp, at least not that we saw) May not get this dish again. It wasn 't bad, just not to our liking. The Shanghai stir fried thick noodles was good, but a bit too salty. Think they added too much soy sauce. Maybe because it was so busy that they accidentally splashed in too much sauce. It was fine tho, still good. The steamed juicy dumplings were ok. Not much juice inside and not too flavorful. But since they served it with the black vinegar, I ate it well. Haha! It 's the vinegar that helps. Glad they served it with the black vinegar and not the red type like many dim sum spots do. We tried the large pork balls with crab sauce. Very nice. The pork mixture was very very tender juicy. Cooked perfectly. The seafood sweetness the crab sauce gave was very tasty with the meat. Make sure to add a few spoonfuls of sauce over your meatball as you eat it! The fried fishes was also good. Don 't remember the name but it was like 5-6 small fishes that were deep fried and seasoned. Crispy. Yummy! Next time we come back to the area, think we will come back and try other dishes as well. They have a large assortment to choose from. Can 't wait!
Sweet sour pork spareribs are solid, and probably the star of the show here. We ordered their sweet sour pork spareribs, pea shoots, Shanghai chow mein, and the XLB. Sweet sour pork spareribs: Again, solid. Get this if you 're craving it. Good color, doused in the sauce, excellent overall. Pea shoots: One of my favorite veggie dishes to order in Chinese cuisine. Compliments the S SPS above. Garlic taste, clear sauce. Very good. Shanghai chow mein: Chewier and thicker than more commonly eaten chow mein in American-Chinese cuisine. Another one of my favorites. XLB: In attempt to use a phrase very common among zoomers, this was very mid . While it certainly looks the part, it lacked any punchy flavor in the broth. I 've been looking for my next XLB place ever since my favorite place closed down several years ago. I 'm still trying to find that next best place. They also have killer lunch specials, I 'm coming back for that next time.
The price was not bad, however, the food were not that great, several dishes were very salty. Taste were not very authentic.
