You pay extra for the last two meats, but we didn 't feel like eating sausage so we went for the chicken, ribs, and brisket. For sides (and they really are sized for one person about one half cup each), we picked coleslaw, mac and cheese, garlic mashed potatoes, and house salad (details on the sides below). Two sauces were provided one spicy and one sweet. The spicy tasted better, IMO, although it wasn 't very hot at all. The sweet was like syrup, but I guess it was adequate. Now for the meats. The chicken was lightly seasoned and a bit dry (two thighs with backbone and two drumsticks all from pretty tiny chickens), but it was okay dipped in one of the sauces. The ribs were also well done, but didn 't really have any smoke flavor. Again, the sauce was critical here for dunking. The fatty brisket was the best of the meats and I 'd order that if I was gonna order from Longhorn again. The sides were pretty sad. We would have been okay with the small portions, if they had tasted okay. Unfortunately, the mashed potatoes (with a couple tablespoons of gravy on the side) were really the only tasty side. The mac and cheese tasted of cheese powder. The salad was a cup of iceberg, two tomato wedges, about a teaspoon of grated carrot, and a small serving of tasteless salad dressing. And then there was the coleslaw. It tasted like nothing seems like plain grated cabbage would at least provide SOME flavor, but the slaw just didn 't have any taste at all. We had to throw some ranch from the fridge on it just to make it edible. I 'm sure that people who eat at restaurants all the time might put the food on their acceptable list. But we still feel that eating out is a treat, and that it should, in the end, be a pleasurable experience. Even if you 're not spending a lot of money (and the Longhorn is fairly reasonable for a barbeque joint), we feel that the food should at least be enjoyable. Let 's face it, I 'm a fan of old fashioned hood 'ques, so I guess I should just stick with Let 's Just Smoke or Lil Red or Jones, and get a good and greasy face full of flavor.
BBQ!!! Wow, it makes you feel guilty reaping the benefits of the time it takes to create the smokey tender meat. Makes you feel like you're at a family BBQ! The brisket just melts in your mouth, as does the pulled pork, ribs, chicken, house made BBQ sauce, and along with a good selection of sides to accompany your meal. Great customer service. Love looking at all the pictures on the walls as I was waiting for take-out. Should have seen the smile on my little guy's face when he inhaled the smell of BBQ.
