The Yorkshire puddings were small and seemed like they were frozen Aunt Bessie's. The meat, stuffing, and roast potatoes were all very tasty. However, my brother ordered a pepperoni pizza and chicken poppers, but it took so long for his food to arrive that everyone else at the table had already finished their carvery. Despite this, the overall experience was good, but it could have been better.
We were staying at the Peartree Lodge next door and decided to stop in for food and drinks after traveling. We waited at the bar for a while, but the barmaid was chatting with a friend for a long time, making it hard to know she was working there. Finally, we got our drinks and sat down to look at the menu. Unsure of how to order, I approached two staff members who were chatting and had to interrupt to ask how to place an order. They seemed annoyed and told me to order at the bar before resuming their conversation. Eventually, we got our tickets for the carvery. The server was polite, but the pigs in blankets were just sausages without any blankets. The meat was good, with a variety of vegetable choices. The only downside was that the food wasn't hot, just lukewarm. Still tasty though.
I was disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The only meat option available was beef, which I do not eat. The roast potatoes were kept warm for too long, making them dry and unappetizing. When I complained to the manager on site, I was offered a free meal for myself and my partner on our next visit. However, when we returned two days later, a different manager informed me that I could only receive a 10% discount on my meal. I felt embarrassed in front of other customers when I was told that the previous manager had made a mistake by offering a free meal. As someone who plans events for a large company, including Christmas parties, I will not be booking this venue in the future.
We haven’t been to this carvery for at least 10 years so we were surprised at how different the restaurant looked. There’s much more room in the carvery area and they added a pizza bar. Our first visit was Wednesday 19th July at 8 pm. Stevie greeted us and took us to the table. We didn’t know what you have to do and assumed once we booked and paid online, we took the phone to the chef to get our plates. The chef was happy to serve us looking at my phone. The roast potatoes were nice. Crispy crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy Inside. The mash was a perfect consistency. All the veg was perfectly cooked apart from the cauliflower cheese which was very soft. The yorkshires were frozen and ok. The 5 Pigs in blankets weren’t great. My husband ordered a drink and we waited a long time. I didn’t realise we were meant to go to the bar for the drinks and no one told us. We ordered and paid online which meant no waiting around once we had eaten. We left feeling really happy that we had our old original carvery back. 15 years ago we were going 2 3 times a week with our four children. My children are adults now with their own children. We told them about it and they agreed they would all try it soon. Needless to say they now won’t be going . However, Thursday was a different story. We had such a nice meal on Wednesday we went back the next day. We went in and some woman barked at us to check our car in. I said I didn’t know we had to do that and we hadn’t done it the day before. She replied in a very rude way that there are signs in the car park. To be honest, we never thought about looking to see if we could park there, we always have in the past and the car park belongs to the pub. Also their sister branch at Wolverton Mill doesn’t have it so I really never gave it a thought. We even spoke to the receptionist in the hotel and asked if we could park in the disabled space because they had cones blocking them off. She came out and moved them for us and she didn’t mention checking the car in. The rude woman mumbled something and walked off. We didn’t know what to do so I moved in to the carvery area and she looked at me and said “find a table and sit down!” We ordered our food and paid with the online app, then went to the carvery. I showed the chef my phone and he said I needed a ticket. So we went back to the table and waited for the ticket to be given. We waited and waited, when a young lady walked past who said her name was Sophie. I asked how we got the tickets and she said from the bar but she kindly offered to go get them. We got them and went up to the carvery. The chef that was on today was miserable was a different one. He gave us our meat but forgot the pigs in blankets so I asked for them. He didn’t say a word, he just grabbed the last five in the pot which were shrivelled up, burnt and missing the bacon. We paid £1.99 for them but they were inedible. All of the veg was mushy and very over cooked. We went over to the gravy and found there was very little. It was congealed and just not even warm. We ate what we could and left. A few days later we received a parking ticket for £85 £50 if paid in 14 days . I couldn’t be bothered to argue about it so I paid it. I couldn’t afford it but thankfully I have a well paid son who paid it for me. But I will NEVER return there or any other restaurant owned by this company. They sent me an email about my review on Google that I think had quite a sarcastic tone “Thank you for spending the time and writing about your experience 3rd time round”. Photo added to show this. I also originally reviewed on here and mentioned the first chef who was nice was black and the second chef who was white, wasn’t nice. The reason for stating their colour was because I didn’t have their names so I used their skin colour to describe them. This lovely company decided to detract from my complaint and accused me of being racist for mentioning their skin colour. Since when was merely saying a persons skin colour racist? I even said the black chef was nice would I say that if I were racist? They have no idea of my race and how dare they try to come at me with that just because I gave an honest review on here. It was a very pathetic thing to do and it shows how much they don’t care about their customers. Most businesses would ask if there’s anything they could do to get us to return or in the very least, apologise for the experience. But not this company, they attack.
Came with my partner and 4 friends for a carvery, was treated very well, friendly and proffesional staff. Enviroment was very nice, one of the chef's danny made our food which was speedy and tasted very nice although the resturant seemed busy Would defently go again.
