Additionally, the roast served on a bed of rosemary twigs was quite unusual. The drinks were costly and half of them had been removed from the menu. If you want to know what beers are available, you need to go to the bar to find out. My wife found the rosemary overwhelming in her roast, but the staff didn't inquire about it. We ordered a chocolate fondant, but it came out collapsed and undercooked. Overall, the experience was disappointing. Hopefully, it was just an off day for the restaurant.
We stayed overnight with our parents who have mobility issues and found The Stables room to be absolutely perfect for them! We stayed in The Dairy room, which had a lovely comfortable four poster bed, a fantastic shower, and was spotless. We dined in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast and the food was amazing. All the staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to help us. Thank you so much, we highly recommend this place!
We have previously stayed at this restaurant last year, but there have been changes with new owners. We stayed for 2 nights. The check-in process was okay, and we were in room 5. We had a couple of drinks at the bar, but no food was available. I had noticed that breakfast on Saturday was from 8:30 to 10:30, but as we were leaving early on Saturday for a long drive home, I asked if there was a chance of a breakfast box or sandwich to take with us. Unfortunately, nothing was provided, even though we had already paid for breakfast. As someone with type 2 diabetes, this was not great. The first night we were very tired, so we went to bed early. The next morning, we were disappointed with the breakfast options available. There was no bread, Danish pastry, or cereal. The full English breakfast was not great, with only one piece of toast cut in half, a lot of butter but no bread, poor quality bacon, half a tomato, and very dry baked beans. We were glad we didn't have breakfast the next day. What made me upset is that we left a note requesting 4 hot chocolate drinks to be left in our room, as I don't drink tea or coffee. They had only left 2 the previous day, so we were only asking for 2 more, but they still only left 2. We had to speak to the assistant general manager, who apologized and gave us 8 packets of hot chocolate drinks. It was nice of her, but customers should not have to beg for a couple of hot chocolate drinks. Additionally, our room had issues - the toilet door did not close properly, so we had to put an empty toilet roll in the door to keep it closed. The bed cover was also lumpy, which we only noticed on the first night when we were very tired. The hotel should investigate these issues and consider purchasing new bed covers. Apologies for being so negative, but as returning guests, we have noticed these issues and believe that other guests will as well.
We went for a meal today. The main course was nice, for dessert i ordered strawberry velvet cheesecake and my friend ordered sticky toffee sponge. Mine when it came i was disappointed, that was the smallest cheesecake i have ever had. And it wasn't velvet cheesecake more like a chocolate mouse with strawberry in it and it cost £7. i would of expected a triangle shaped cheesecake.and that’s looks like more of a cheesecake that cheesecake is more for a very posh restaurant.not for a pub hotel. My friend didn't have enough sauce on hers so it wasn’t a sticky toffee pudding. You need to sort out your desserts very expensive for what they are. Staff was good, but your dessert let you down. I should of taken a photo
We came here last year for Sunday dinner was excellent, could not fault it. Today totally different story, staff nice but incredibly slow despite hardly any customers. Fish was tasteless, garnish painfully limp. Ordered Peach Tarte Tartin supposed to come with a quince brandy puree, what we got was a breakfast like square pastry that looked like it had a couple of shallots on it. Could not taste peaches, was not a proper tarte tatin and no puree. It was similar to what you get for a £1 on supermarket shelves alongside croissants. There was no taste or likeness at all to a peach tarte tartin, so disappointed, I am afraid we will not be returning or recommending. I guess that explains why it was practically empty when we are used to hoping to get a seat. No presentation, could not taste tartar sauce, I would be ashamed to put that food out even in a greasy cafe. Chef is either clueless or does not care.
